Subject: Snow SLOP (What am I Doing Wrong?)

Can anyone look at my results and tell me where I went wrong? I used the fire (fir) tree and followed as best as I could. I am using Vue 4.10-02. Here is the tutorial I was trying to use: Create a fire tree, copy-past it and leave it at the same place. Choose the pasted fire tree in the world browser. Click with your right mouse button in the vegetation window (it's grey for the moment) and choose LOAD A MATERIAL. In the new window, go to FILE - VUE D'ESPRIT - PLANTS - FIRE TREE BRANCH.MAT and click. Now, you see the fire tree leaves in the vegetation window. Double click at it, choose PROCEDURAL COLORS - NEW. Choose white color. In the BUMPS window, choose the NULL function. Click OK. Twist the pasted fire tree gentle (you just need to twist it a very little bit, try out what's the best), then superimpose exactly the trunks of tree 1 and tree 2. (example IMAGE 1) Instead of twisting, you also can raise the pasted fire tree (z=0.2 i.e, thanks to Jean-RenLivenais !). The result is a little different. This permits you to create several aspects of the trees. (example IMAGE 2)

The tutorial were made for Vue 3, I have changed one sentence. You should read: 3. Now, you see the fire tree leaves in the vegetation window. Double click at it, choose PROCEDURAL COLORS. Double-click in the color window and select white color. In the BUMPS window, choose the NULL function. Click OK. What happend for you is, that, when you applied the WHITE material, you have changed something in transparencies too. If the firetree has not any more transparency function applied, it looks as yours above. If you need more help, just let me know. Thanks:-) Guitta

Well, not as pretty as the tute pic, but a DEFINITE improvement over my first one...LOL. I'll have to twist and turn and tweak a bit. Thanks (again), Guitta!

Its nice too. For more snow, just push the second tree very slightly up. As each firtree is different from the previous, you may choose another one to get nicer effects:-) Guitta

THAT tree is from the planet "Slopterra". It fits in real well there. BUT, I need a tree for the planet Earth...LOL.
