64 RPP is best, though 36 will work fine. I wouldn't go below 36 though. AT 36 the DOF is barely grainy, at 16, there is a very noticeable grain, at 64, there's no grain. I LOVE THE IMAGE SO FAR! For this close up view, I'd use a DOF setting of .12 for the lens. Also, tone down the ambience just a bit...just a litttle bit. The little hills look great! Maybe add a log or something to break up the snow behind the balls?

Tone the ambience down of what? The ambience of the balls? I'll use 36 RPP. This is actually a really big scene (the middle ball is like 500 bryce units away from the camera) does this matter for the DOF?

No, just make sure to click "set to selection" in the DOF options. Yes, I meant the ambience of the snow material. Or the diffuse. Whatever looks best.
