AnnaNova what apiece of shit that deal is. They call themselves the first virtual newscaster yet they are not. She is animated real video, Haptek(Haptek.com) makes photorealistc 3D characters that talk to you and intreract with you real time and its all JAVA and man the realism blows Anna out of the water. You do have to download a plugin but(enable all language options) But it is the best there is. Want to see an example go to haptek.com or go to my site at http://jupiter.spaceports.com/pjanak/index.htm But again you will need the plugin first. Pete

Well, I have to admit that I was a bit disappointed with Ananova. First, I was greatly disappointed that they altered her appearance from what was first shown. Lastly, the voice is very mechanical compared to what is available. Even the local weather radar station has a more realistic sounding computer generated voice. However, having said all that, it is an interesting experiment and I am sure it will lead to even more. Also, when I tried to access the site pjanak spoke of at http://jupiter.spaceports.com/pjanak/index.htm, I got a "Page Not Found Error." So, at least for now, it is Ananova 1, pjanak 0.

I forgot to add the litlle"~" thing in the address so her it is with the "~"http://jupiter.spaceports.com/~pjanak/index.htm Yeah I admit its still a neat idea but I'm just saying that they are tooting ther horn when they certainly are not the greatest thing since sliced bread.

And while my example isn't really the greatest thing since sliced bread either. I just wanted to show how much better hapteks 3D characters are. They even have full bodies fully articulated characters. Tis true it is a bit longer(very small bit) of a download but at least there is no lag time in the middle of a dialogue. at index htm select frames or no frames. Naturallly no frames is the quickest. I have a Mainpage and a links page thatutilizez hapteks characters. I am not the best a programing java so my character does lack some character but man you can make the character sound happy, exited, sad, mad, smart, stupid. Talk fast, talk slow for dramtic effects etc. They evn have morphing facial expression which are controlable. Pete http://jupiter.spaceports.com/~pjanak/index.htm

Actually the concept of streaming stripped down data on the internet, and allowing the client processor to do the work is the way to go. I think Virtual Friend is definately a move in the direction that internet apps should go, and the app has possibilities, but the company needs to push the product a little harder, and they need to get cracking on the Mac port.

Ahhh- but perhaps the more significant point is that this is the BBC doing this -- paying someone to do work at this level -- that they consider acceptable quality for global broadcast. All our stuff just became more marketable. Sheesh! I just looked back and there have been a half dozen threads on this since January and I've missed every one prior to this. btw, just curious, were you guys watching broadband or 56k?

pjanak posted Fri, 28 April 2000 at 4:45 AM

What. Is broadband 56k different from plain old 56k? My modem's max is 56k although it never goes higher than 44. You say "our stuff". So do you work for the folks creating Anna Nova Nance?
