http://rayraz.tripod.com/animations.html All the explosion-detail is done with volumetrics. Only 1 sphere and a 2D plane used, and a few stones ofcoarse. The texture for the 2D-plane is an animation of 2 other static spheres with animated textures.

Unavailable hourly bandwidth exceeded. DAMN TRIPOD!!! Sounds like a cool technique. Am I to understand this is an animation within an animation.

Colette1 posted Fri, 20 December 2002 at 11:12 AM

Can't look for another hour:(

Aldaron posted Fri, 20 December 2002 at 11:51 AM

Not bad, it looks pretty good. I was expecting a bit more fuzziness but I guess in space you really wouldn't get much of that.

GROINGRINDER posted Fri, 20 December 2002 at 12:13 PM

I'm trying to d/l it now. Gonna take 17 min. DAMN DIALUP CONNECTION!!

Jausse posted Fri, 20 December 2002 at 12:37 PM

Same for me. Hopefully I'll get DSL in July (yes, that's a long time from now). Josselin

Cool idea Rayraz. Hard to rig up a convincing explosion in space, or elsewhere, using Bryce, but this looks good.

Jausse posted Fri, 20 December 2002 at 12:59 PM

D*&$n! I've just downloaded your 4,1Mb file just to see that Quicktime can't open it! (I've got the latest updates) I don't want to install MS Media Player on my Mac. Is there a possibilitty of having a MPEG or a MOV file? Josselin

I like it. Rayraz. Nice spread on the destroyed asteroid and great incoming fireball.

Because I like to blow $%&# up.

Wow, well worth the wait to download!

Great stuff, Rayraz! Much better than my pathetic attempt...

Colette1 posted Sat, 21 December 2002 at 12:48 AM

That is just beautiful Rayraz. My Quick time opened it just fine. Just asked me to update it and in less than a second there it was! Great job! This was done in Bryce?? WhOA!

Rayraz posted Sat, 21 December 2002 at 5:51 AM

I can try to get the animation smaller for those who have dial-up, but then I have to turn the res down. I don't know if I can get a decent MOV, but I'll try. Usually I can't seem to get compressions right. I always get excactly the same file-size, no matter how low or high the datarate and compresionsettings are. And when using mpeg4 or divx 5 compression results in terrible artifacts. The only compression that seems to work for me is indeo 5(.04?). I can try to make the scene of the exploding asteroid a freebee if the file is not to large and if anyone's interrested.

Nice effect Rayraz, looks great.

shadowdragonlord posted Sat, 21 December 2002 at 12:10 PM

Aye, it wouldnt' even open in QT for me, I had to view it with Media Player, but it still is beautiful!

madmax_br5 posted Sat, 21 December 2002 at 1:47 PM

Rayraz, Try sorenson 2 or 3 compression for a quicktime file. I wish i could see it :/

Rayraz posted Sat, 21 December 2002 at 2:01 PM

sorenson. I never heard of that. I'll google it up and see what I can do.

That was fun to look at. It had me repeatedly clicking the play button and going "BOOOOM!" LOL. Dunno why tho. Now if only you could use Bryce for video games.

whats' the Indeo Video Playback codec?...worth buying?

Rayraz posted Mon, 23 December 2002 at 3:34 AM

http://www.moviecodec.com/download/indeo511.exe indeo 5.11 codec. it's free. It's only the compression codec used by video-editors/players. you still need a player/editor to use the codec.

Info on www.moviecodec.com about .mov files: "QuickTime File These are files for Apples rich media player, which supports a wide range of formats (Indeo, MP3, H.263, H.262, Sorenson Video 1 and 2, Cinepak etc.). MOV and QT is the exact same file format, however MOV is the most used format today. There is also two more file formats used in conjunction with Apples Quicktime player: QTX and QTR, these are expansion modules to the player itself, much like windows codecs are contained in DLL files these files are like the Macintosh DLL format." Why can I only use cinepak and indeo 2.1 while this text says I can also use sorenson and other codecs? I tried creating a mac-friendly version using mpg or mov, but I somehow seems to be restricted to a datarate of 300KB/s and a res of 320x240. How do I get my video-editor to use Sorenson? I was told it only came with QT6, but after downloading QT6 and installing it I still can't use Sorenson.
