I've had poser for a while now and I kinda got the hang of positioning, lighting and using props. One thing that has troubled me lately is the word textures. What do textures do??? Are they just different colours for your clothing sets??? Are they different sets of faces, hair styles??? Whenever i download a "texture" its always in .jpg and I have no idea how to use it. PLZ HELP!!!!!!!!!!!

texture is the colours, it can also be the skin tone, it can add detailing ( like buttons and zippers or scars and bruises ) the way to apply the texture is through the render/materials menu just make sure you have the correct character / prop selected before you alter the texture.

Textures are colorations used for meshes. With .obj meshes (the most commonly used type for Poser), the mesh stores information saying, "look at this coordinate in a texture file to know how to display/color this part of the mesh." This information is called UVMapping. (Think of longitude and lattitude coordinates. You know where to put the U.S. on a globe because of the longitude and lattitude coordinates.) Depending on what version of Poser you have, you can use different file formats for textures. .jpg is the most common. If you have P4, you can go to Render: Materials and select the figure, then the body part, and assign the texture file to that part of the mesh. In P5, you go into the Material Room to do this. (P5 has more options for texturing, but I'd suggest you play with the basics first.) If all you want is one flat color for a mesh, you can just assign a color to it and not worry about using a texture, but you won't get very nice results that way. One thing that is very important to understand is that you have to use texture files made for the specific mesh. The UV Mapping for one mesh may be completely different than for another mesh. (Quick and dirty analogy: Compare a globe of the world with a flat map of the world. Countries look a bit different size-wise because the coordinates are laid out slightly differently. If you draw the U.S. on a flat map, it will not look right on a globe and vice versa. This analogy is slightly off, but it's a start.) I have an explanation on some of the different texture maps you'll use in Poser on my site, about 1/2 way down in the FAQ page. (This was written for P4, but it should help give a start for P5 as well.) Hope this helps, Cres
