I can't decide what to put on the foreground. :(

Ummm How about a rocket powered santa? :P Draculaz...which challenge is this?

draculaz posted Wed, 25 December 2002 at 10:21 PM

oh, and some specs: universe for the bg, obviously.. the textures on the planets are made with a neat little plug-in for photoshop called lunarcell available at flamingpear.com. basically I made one 2048x2048 map and another 1024x1024 for the smaller planet. the glow of the planets comes from the green light material in the bryce presets under complex fx, basically put on two larger spheres and moved to give atmosphere only to the visible sun-lit parts. In terms of realism I think I did okay, but it's obviously missing something. I'm having trouble with textuers and lighting. No. 1 I can't find a decent ship's hull texture anywhere, and the ones I make can't be seen because of the bloody no atmosphere setting (that being no 2). Any suggestions would be helpful. thx

this is the sci-fi challenge that i've made for myself and whoever else might be interested. basically anything and everything is allowed, as long as it's a space scene, and all models are made by you :) i'm thinking of going pure bryce, but i still have to think about how to properly make the damned ship be seen. :)

Have you tried Brycetech for Hull texture? Give it a try. Will let you know if I come across any other textures!

thanks humorix :) and Merry Christmas!

Take these into photoshop and add a dirt and grime layer.

GROINGRINDER posted Wed, 25 December 2002 at 11:30 PM

If these aren't good enough then go to brycetech's site and look for the tech wall series of textures. ( I think it was brycetech I may be wrong. )

I went the other way round and started with the ship. It's far from finished; I went the pure Bryce way. Josselin

thanks josselin. generally if I don't have the textures I don't even try to make the model. too scared it'll just stay there unrealistic and lonely ;) YES, a lonely model, okay? =)

draculaz wrote: i'm thinking of going pure bryce... That'll be fun, but if you do choose that route you'll need to redo your background. I think Bryce can handle space scenes fine without assistance from Universe, et al. :-)

How about making an asteroid belt around the "foreground" planet with a few ships chasing each other through it la star-wars episode 2?

By the way, is the Sci-fi challenge a space-sci-fi challenge or can I make a scene that's a little bit les spacey but still sci-fi?

A lonely model in space is fine. I will make two, and space docks la Star trek ;-) Josselin

GROINGRINDER posted Thu, 26 December 2002 at 2:09 PM

When does this challenge end?

SevenOfEleven posted Thu, 26 December 2002 at 2:52 PM

Like the look of the planets.

Rayraz posted Thu, 26 December 2002 at 3:20 PM

How about letting the challenge end at the end of januari? that way we have plenty of time to make something truly amazing.

Well, I'm still working on the hero ship of my scene. The others won't be so detailed ;-) Josselin
