Yeah, sure :) You can include the label tutorial too . You will have to tweak it a bit, though ... Is it a problem ? I can do it for you if you want . litst

Being new to this game I have no idea why they would be irregular. Do you mean irregular in the spacing of the threads? Maybe when I have some idea what I am doing I will know....LOL. Kix, thank you for asking, I have sent the email. I cleaned it up a little and made a zip file for you but it was a "rush job" so it isn't real fancy. Feel free to make any changes you want to it. Also, litst, I have no problem with you linking to my page. I'll just have to remember not to delete it. :) Peabody

Terri, i haven't checked, but i don't think there's any big difference between the file sizes . In the two cases, it's just a spline object with a spiral extrusion and two sections . Mark, the reason i've made this tutorial was because someone asked me how to do and i was lazy to dig into the archives here ;) Peabody, don't you see the little flaw that does like some kind of zig-zag ? Well, it's probably because it's not obvious :) . Again, great technique and thanks for sharing !

I can see the zig-zag, but maybe if you change the spline model to vertex model with 500% value, they would both look the same - very smooth.

If you make it a triangle instead of a diamond, that would get rid of some of the facets from the invisible interior, for a lighter poly model, right? I also tried a triangle with the bottom open, but that seems to get twisted. hm. Markd

Ok...the threads are easy to me, but what I want to do is via the spline modeler, make the bolt completely (threads, bare length and tip), but I can't get the cross-sections to order right, I change the number order and can't get it to work. Not an expert in the spline modeler, still learning it so any help would be appreciated. Found thus far its a good modeler. An image would help. Brian

This tutorial was put onto the Carrara Raydream CD. I still have it.

Thanks kix. If you can't post it please identify the CD. I just took a quick look in one of my boxes of CDs and didn't find one for Carrara, but my storage habits aren't consistent. I also see I have installation files going back to Carrara 4 on my PC, so it might be there somewhere.
