...will soon be added to my book collection. I ordered it tonight! From what everyone's been saying about it, plus the reviews I've seen online...I'd be stupid NOT to get this book. I think I'm starting to kinda sorta get somewhere with Bryce, so I figured why the heck should I limit myself to how good of a google.com/tutorial search operator I am and start getting a tad more serious about it. I hope this book really does turn out to do good...it sounds like it's worth getting it for the DTE chapter alone. I read somewhere about actually looking into the mathmatical way of things? That sounds perfect! I can't wait for it to get here. MadDog31 PS...I'm retiring the lighthouse project, time to think up something else! :)

MadDog31, I really think you wont be disappointed. As has been said, this book is considered to be the Bryce bible of books. Its a rather thick book with lots and lots of information. Not the kind of book that you could expect to read in a night and think that the next day youll have total control over the software. To the contrary, it will make you aware of Bryces intricacies and how wonderfully complicated this relatively reasonably priced piece of software really is. Im sure you will spend many nights up, exploring through the book, trying to understand the workings of this awesome program. Remember, most important of all, is to have fun. Enjoy!

Yes RWBR4 is a great book, we tore Bryce apart in every section to show how it works and to inform the user more on the lil ins and outs. The book is over a 1000 pages in length, you'll have all the knowledge ya need when you go through it:-) BTW look for my images in the color section:-) Good Luck!
Do atleast one thing a day that scares the hell outta ya!!

Lol...Real World Bryce IS the Bryce Bible. None of it is fluff, there is SO much freaking information, it's ridiculous. It is the College Teachers Edition of the Bryce Manual. Except for a few aspects of Bryce (animation), I thought I pretty much knew just about all I would need to know. RWBR4 kicked my BUTT the first day of reading. I have resigned myself to gently nawing on individual chapters for weeks at a time now. First time I ever picked up RWBR4, in the bookstore, first thing I ever saw, was the page with clays rusty submarine on it. (I love rust, lol). I instantly started saving for the book. You'll never look at your manual ever again. Never ever. AgentSmith

I have a bad habit of reading the book in reference to something I'm in the process if rendering. That's when it tells me I should be doing this or that and I have to stop the render half way through and go put it right. But that's ok 'cos it's aways right, it's just a brill book. Catlin

Worn my copy ragged. :^) Hope to replace it with the update which is apparently to be published eventually.

Is there a compariable book for Bryce5?
AgentSmith posted Tue, 21 January 2003 at 6:09 AM
Nope. Susan Kitchens said she is planning to one day release additional Bryce material. Right now she's planning on making it in .pdf format for purchase at her website. No date given. And, since I know that other question will come up, lol. Here is her address; http://www.auntialias.com/

Everything in RWB4 is still usuable in Bryce 5, it just doesn't have anything on the new features of course (metaballs and trees).

It's a beautiful book, and it's written really good. It has given me an insight on Bryce that the manual couldn't. You won't regret ordering it! Stefano

AgentSmith, Clay, does Susan (AuntieAlias) ever make an appearance on this forum? I remember how they use to offer those trips to Bryce Camp for a week or two. Sure wish I could have made one of those.

I've never knowingly ran into her here at Renderosity, but then again I've not been here since the beginning. Bryce Camp (drool....) AgentSmith

A fine book! You will be quite happy with it, and learn something new every time you flip through it.

Its just about the most readable manual I
ve ever come across. In any subject. So often books contain the information you need but your brain atrophies while trying to understand it. Well, thats my excuse. Only caveat I would make. It
s so heavy that you need to be careful the spine doesn`t collapse. (The books spine, not the readers) The copy I read was almost in two, but it was a library copy. On that point, anyone in the UK can ask their local library to get them a copy from libraries outside their borough. Tell them the City of London library has a copy. Just be careful of the spine.

scotttucker3d posted Wed, 22 January 2003 at 10:32 PM
LOL- the spine on my copy blew out too. The damn thing is too huge! Brycecamp is really great. I taught texture mapping at the first 3 Brycecamps and texture mapping and the treelab at the last one. With this economy I don't see a future bcamp on the horzon, but who knows - if they call I would be glad to do it again. We had a great time with Clay at the last one and the class really liked him. In Susan's DTE class we replicated the textures in rocks found on an actual beach. Nothing can touch the DTE in Bryce - Mojoworld has much more complex fractals but nothing can touch the easy to use UI of Bryce. Learn the DTE in Bryce and you will put your personal brushstroke on all the images you create in Bryce. RWB4 will stand the test of time. Metaballs, trees and network renders are great but the DTE , skies, and the terrain editor are the meat of Bryce and Susan covers them perfectly. RWB4 easily covers the most important aspects of the current version of Bryce - buy it you'll be glad you did! Scott

MadDog, if you havent gotten your copy by now I'd suggest going to the site where you bought the book and get the tracking number. then call up ups and ask them what's up. I had a problem with a carrier not being able to find my place just recently - you may be experiencing the same type of thing. - TJ
