My first (and only, so far) contribution to free-stuff just reached the 500 download milestone (not that many, I know.. but I feel like celebrating). A round of drinks in the tavern on me (after which I'll wash off, change clothes and buy everyone else a round ;o). And 10 pints of bier for derjimi for hosting my model.

Well! Congratulations! How about telling us where it's posted? Hearty beer to you too!

I'll take a non-alcoholic drink please :) Congrat's with your 500 downloads. I'll check and see how many I got.

AAH! my best has only done 288 downloads!! Gotta find me a host that doesn't create the 'bandwidth has been used. Come again in 3 hours' message. That scares off the downloaders. Does anyone know if I can see how many views and downloads my site and links got at Tripod?

hehehe... 501 ;) And, BTW & FYI, this was not an intentional attempt to get more d/l's.. I was just excited about it, and in a rare good mood tonite. I told my wife and she said, (to paraphrase) "see, I told you to put that in the marketplace. At $10, or so, a pop... think how much money that would be"... I tried to explain that a lot more people are willing to spend $0 on something than $10 -$20. But she just shakes her head and walks away... I don't think she's going to be happy until I make something to sell.

(Opens coke, sits back.) Thanks for your great contribution FW! I think you WOULD have done well selling that, but of course I;m thankful that it's free. Maybe that's something we can all learn. Say, if you get 250 or more downloads of an item in free stuff, a little more work on it would be a great item to sell. Personally my largest is 286 downloads, which is not the one I expected at all!

I d/l'd it day 1 but not sure how to open it. I'm on a PC. Is there something I have to download in order to do this? Thanks and Congrats, its a beautiful desk! Ang

I've always used Aladdin's Stuffit Expander (free d/l at link) to decompress .zip's, .sit's, .rar's ... just about anything in any compressed format. it's understandable, though, if you wouldn't want to install a program just for one item... let me know and I'll see if I can e-mail you a zip (approx. 4.5Mb)DreamWarrior posted Fri, 24 January 2003 at 11:33 AM
Congrats, FW! I remember you working on it. It's a great item! Keep up the good work! (and hopefully, make some $$$ in the future).

Whoa,
I think I remember seeing you post a couple WIP's on this. I can only imagine what you've been holding out on if this is the FIRST thing you have posted as a freebie. This is an EXCELLENT piece of work. We all love a free one now and again but you really could make at least a little money off stuff of this caliber.

p.s. on the wife thing...
Mine used to get miffed at me with the amount of time I spent "dinking around" doing stuff on my computer that didn't make money...until I managed to land a job as a programmer...which turned into a job as a CTO three years later. Now she really enjoys the stuff I put out, money making or no.

I can understand your doubt about becoming a vendor. I have had free stuff texture packs for poser clothes make over 1000 dl's, but tried to sell some, for the mega price of $5, and got 12 sales, spread over 3 packages. Now I just give stuff away. Conversely I think this item would have generated some sales, its good.

I got 436 on my clamshell, but it was not anywhere near as good as your roll top FW. I think most of the downloads came during the underwater challenge too..LOL I love your roll top desk and agree you should have placed it in the market place.:)
