I've been cranking out a website for my partners at Playtechtonics this past week. I decided to skip the web building software and try something created in Bryce and exported as an html file with embedded hotspots. I still have to do a few more pages in the game art section, but it's coming along nicely. Have a look and feel free to comment or ask questions. I'm pretty happy with the results so far.

split the images so they load faster.

And don't publish a page without real content either. That some crits, the renders look realy cool thoug, but you should use them correctly

Terra-man, I'm not sure what you mean by "real content", or why you would worry about me publishing a page without it. I'm also not sure what you mean by "using the renders correctly"? Could you clarify? Galactic Empires is a game currently under construction, this site is basically to promote it and help find investors. Content is on the way..and as I said, the site is still under construction. There will be a playable game there by the end of the year. Even if I split the page into a dozen images, it's still the same amount of data. You might get the illusion of it loading faster, but it's still pumping in at the same speed, and each html jpg page is only around 300k, not too much data considering the size of most web sites.

If I had come across this site by accident I would have bookmarked it and followed the progress. Well I have bookmarked it and will follow its progress. The images are great and I look forward to the game links leading somewhere, it's a fine piece of work and I think you are doing a great job. As for the load speed, I'm on 600k broadband and it opens pretty snappy on my system. Also, if you are going to play games online you really need broadband, dialup connections just don't cut it. Happy rendering Catlin

That's pretty darn clever. I think it looks great so far. One thing you might keep in mind - a lot of internet users are not that savy when it comes to hotspots on images. If you are sure your customers are familiar with that, then you have nothing to worry about. Otherwise you might have to break down and put some sort of explanation that is easy to find somewhere on the homepage. I'm on a cable connection, so speed is no problem. If you want dial-up users, you might have to do a more boring version of your website that people with slower connections can link to. Finally, no matter how user friendly you try to make the website (and you should work hard at that part of it) you will still get plenty of people who will email you asking questions that they could have looked up themselves. Be patient with them, you will sell more games. Lin

Hey I think your site looks great, but if i may criticise, the pics dont look as professional as you might want. (but thats just my opinion. But other than that Ithink your doin a great job so far.

I think it is really great. I am new to this but I would also bookmark it and check back on it from time to time. I have dial up and it wasn't to bad to load. I have loaded worse. Keep up the good work.

It might be an idea to add a guestbook so that those who do like the idea can add nice comments which in turn would interest any sponsers if they see that people are interested. If all else fails get all your friends to write something good and I'm sure with a bit of prodding folk in here would write something too. Just a thought. Catlin

Looks very good. But may I suggest some activity on the page? If you cut the image up in several small images you can put in some animated gifs. So you could make lights flash robots move and stuff like that. Also you might want to make the buttons rollover. So if you have you mouse on them they will get bright or change color etc, that will also make it a lot clearer where the buttons are..
