I'm prompted to log in when I click on a thumbnail in the gallery when I'm on as Visitor. Is this a bug or a new policy? I couldn't find any info in the forums.

New policy.
You can view by artist without logging in though.

If we have invited someone who is not a member to view a specific item in our gallery and we give them the address to the graphic, will they be asked to join before they can look at it. Do we have to refer them to our gallery and have them click in from there? I suspect (with good reason) that most of the people who have any interest in my gallery are friends rather than Renderosity community members. I don't want them to feel compelled to join Renderosity just to view one graphic.

I haven't tested it, but I think you give a link to your whole gallery.

So,does this mean that EVERYONE must join this site just to look at the pics? Seems kind of dumb to me. I know some people who don't model anything but they like to see the finished product. Sure is gonna cut down on attendance, seems like. Just voicing my opinion.

dialyn,There is a way to go to a single image.
Go to your gallery and select the image link you want there. That should work.
Example link above.

Oh, I thought that's what I was asking originally. That helps....that's usually the way I provide a link to people. thank you.

I'm prompted to log in even when I click on the link in my comment notify e-mail. This is only an annoyance at work because I don't keep my password saved there. Out of curiosity, is there any reason for this new policy?

It's an effort to stop scripting of the galleries.

I have to say I'm a little dismayed at this. Especially since as was said above, now the direct links don't even work unless it's the entire string like you gave above. Ones that we were previously trained pretty much not to use (since the number was the only thing necessary). I don't like bandwidth theft anymore than the next guy and I can understand the concern by Rosity to fight it, but don't you think there might be a better way to handle it? Tim said in the banner ads thread that they wanted to make the site more open to the public, but as it stands now, the public can't do anything without joining. While this might get some new members, most will just go elsewhere and you will potentially lose what could be a good customer for the store. I would have never joined if I'd not gotten the chance to look through the galleries first and since then I've spent lots of money on the merchants here. It also keeps potential employers from scanning the gallery for talent without joining, thus forcing them to also go to your competition for artists. I would hope that some thought could be put into this policy and maybe a revision to not close it to the public as it were. There are other ways to stop scripting of galleries than this. ShadowWind

I think it's fine - galleries should only be viewed by members. Maybe that stops a little bit that rightclick, save and display it elsewhere as my work folks.
