Subject: Vicki as Child End Result (Rockwell)

Well I gave up on the Bug in a jar, and spent some mindless time in Bryce of all programs creating random gumballs. I used Bryce for it's "drop to object/floor" collision dection. (So the balls would not overlap) Well enough on that. I --As you can see -- made her into a girlscout-esque, more in keeping with a Rockwell. This size you really can't see all the detail. Yes I added eyelashes. This was 99.9% Poser 4 rendered. A little touch-up on the broken elbows, and a few bits of smearing the pig tails, and of course the type in PhotoShop. But's that's really all. There was no real magic to getting Victoria to look like a child. Most is in the texture and hairstyle. The rest is just a couple of turns on the "round face" dial, and a turned up nose. It's all how you look at it to begin with. Enjoy. James

Great stuff! The figure is proving very adaptable in the hands of skilled users such as yourelf. I'm sure Zygote would like that in their Victoria gallery.

I can't believe this! It's amazing. James, you're incredible. That looks so authentic, I would almost believe it was a Saturday Evening Post (er, Poser) magazine. Fabulous! I can't wait to see what you come up with next. Melanie

This is just terrific--and I like it even better than the WIP. The concept is neat too-looks soooooooo much like a Rockwellian Post cover. Diane B

Just remembered the 'uniform'. Did you resize/rescale available clothing? They worked really well--and the hair too, which you manipulated for pigtails on either side I guess (ponytail turned??). You're really an innovater G. Diane B

Thanks everyone. I am very pleased with this image. Thanks for all the positive comments. picnic, to answer the questions. Yes the clothes are standard Poser 4. I rescaled and cheated them a lot. They really don't fit, but what you don't see can't hurt you ;-) A rule of thumb in my 3D stills work, "If it can't be seen and doesn't get reflected anywhere -- remove it!". ANd it the part that does show looks ok, and the part that doesn't looks bad, who's the wiser? The Hair is from Zygotes clothing pack, but I'm sure the standard pigtails would have worked too. Zygote's just has a little better front. (Beware -- the hair style doesn't come with a template, I had to make one with UVMapper) So I'm not as innovative as all that ;-) James

OOOOOOOHHHHH I LOVE THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!! I always loved Normaln Rockwell too.. I use to sit for hours looking at prints of his in books and mags... You have captured the Norman Rockwell spirit.... Wonderful character, excellent render!!!! =) ~Cindy

Amazing, the detail the apperance. Thank you for showing us how it is done. Did you scale her down, or have everything so much larger to get the size appearance?

OK, Answer time (In order of apperance): Arabinowitz: Read the Manual ;-) It's not true collision detection. i.e. you can't move something and have it bump something else. It just takes the obj and it's surrounding boundry and moves it to the next boundry it comes in contact with. This has been around since Bryce 3 (I belive) Shawn4683: I've been in Fine Arts and Commercial Art/Graphic Arts for over 25 years. I also (tho not lately) do pastel portraits. This took me only 2 days. Most of the time was spent on texure/transparency maps and the gumballs. a_super_hero: Didn't scale Victoria at all. I indeed just made things look larger. But the hair, beret shirt and vest are all standard size. Camera angle plays a big part in this also. James
