Well, I've been asked to help out with some tutorials for the Back Room. So, I figured I'd ask the community what kind of Poser 5 tutorials would you like to see? I've got a pretty good working knowledge of P5 and anything I don't know, I'm willing to learn. So, suggest away. This is my chance to repay the Renderosity community for all of the help and learning resources. Thanks, ~ Brent

heres an idea... anyone ever use an old animation style of rotoscoping with poser and a live-action background plate? with the figure set to line, one can trace the background actor with a poser figure. id be interested in reading anything anyone has on the subject, trials and tribulations. ~;)

How about walking someone through creating a short hair style? The P5 tutorial section defines all the freaking dials, but it really doesn't show what to do with them all. Tutorials on creating different textures in the Materials Room would also be nice.

TCSP & Crescent thanks for the suggestions. Rotoscoping is something that I have done in the past through After Effects, but that was following a tutorial and remove wires from a "flying" lady:) But I would love to start doing some CG Live Action scences. This is definitly something I want to look into, but I think at another time:) I was thinking about doing the cloth (although there are good tutorials out there) and hair room. I've got a pretty good understanding of the cloth room, but I still have some challenges with the Hair room, so this would be a great experience. Materials Room is on the list too. I think I'll do the cloth room first, to give me a little more time to study the Hair and Materials room. Thanks for the suggestions! :) ~ Brent

something basic in the hair room, material room, and cloth room would be ideal. The hair room is fun but I'm still randomly twiddling dials in there :) Also a 'how to change the materials' tutorial. Took a little while to get the hang of the silly pluggy things... (what were they thinking?) I had to switch out a hait texture and the first time it took me five minutes to find the right thing to hook it ino sigh

How is my theory that the loin would be pulled by gravity, untill it conforms to the shape of M2's waist, holding? = )
amon_g posted Thu, 30 January 2003 at 10:47 AM
Well, if the waist band was set up as a constrained group in the cloth room, it wouldn't move when you calculated the dynamics, so gravity wouldn't effect it. PhilC did something similar on his Haltertop tutorial PhilC's Tutorial Site.
And by using the constrained group on the waist, you could have everything else effected by gravity, which would give you a really cool look. Especially if you had him flying through the air. I'd recommend setting up a couple of key frames with motion (at least moving along the XTran) or use the Wind Generator.
Oh, and also, if you set the waist (in case you didn't want to do the constrained group) to collide with the Abdoman and Hips it wouldn't go anywhere either. You'd just have to make sure it didn't colide with M2.
Hopefully this makes some sense... I don't think I've had enough coffee this morning:)

Hey Lyrra,
On the Mat Lab tutorial, do you think it would be useful to explain what each of the nodes are and what they do? I know trying to figure out what the heck a Math node did cause me some consternation. That would also give me more of an opportunity to learn a little more about the nodes myself. Anyway... I guess I should go to lunch now:)

Definately more node stuff... actually, I may do a "Skin Node" tutorial myself sometime, but it's on the back burner, at least till I get some project backlog done...

Material room node tut, please. I think I use 3 of them have no idea what the others are there for. A really good tutorial on 'simulations', I understand it, well sort of but it confuses me everytime I try one. Everytime I do one I'm suprised it worked and can't remember what I did to get it to work haha! Any tutorials would be most helpful, however, step by step with visual screen captures PLEASE! These help SOOO much. The Poser5 manual ain't bad, but a lot of time they talk about something and I have no visual ref to learn it. Worst tutorials are the some of the ones I run across with "...now you do this in Poser5 just like you would in poser 4, now lets move on..." and I'm left raising my hand in the back of class "Hello, I'm new on planet earth, whats poser 4?" hahaha!

Cool... more node stuff. Thanks EsnRedshirt. If you beat me to the Skin Node, I'd like to see it.
I know what you mean MachineClaw, putting these tutorial/explanations together should help me understand the materials room better:)
I definitely believe that the tutorials should be visual and step by step. I'm not talking completely simplistic but something that's not vague either (unlike this sentence;)).
And don't worry, I won't do a "...now you do this in Poser5 just like you would in Poser4." I haven't used P4 since the release of P5 and I've slept since then so I don't remember much;)
Thanks for the input, and keep it coming. I should have time this weekend to actually sit down and start working on these tutorials (and work on my Banner Contest entry, just in case any moderators are looking;).

Oh yeah Brent, we're looking alright ;) Sounds like you have some great ideas there to get you going. And keep you going G Kev.

LOL:) Yeah... This should keep me busy for a while, but it'll be a whole lot of fun and I'm really looking forward to getting to work. ~ brent ~
