I got a question. What are guidlines for posting pictures with (most likely)copyrighted material in them? This isn't really photography, but I thought I'd ask here anyways. I have this picture from an add that I scanned in and then changed a bit and also put onto a 'photo' that I took and it looks cool. But I dont want to get in trouble for posting it cause it's a recognizable image.

If it's recognizable even after manipulation you may have a problem posting it......of course I'm not 100% sure about this one myself.....you should try posting this in the Copyright Forum..... link provided.

hmm... thanks, I'll go check that out As for manipulation, there hasn't been any, just a bit of fixing(from the scanning) and overlapping my photo

This topic comes up periodically. [I'm afraid I just started another flame war over in "mixed media," much to the discomfort of everyone.] Best practical advice I could give is: "If you ever think you may have enough money that would attract litigation, be very careful how you use other folks copyrighted works." Next piece of advice: "Assume ANY work is copyrighted by someone."

I just checked my link, and apparently the thread, and the very nice image that prompted the thread, has been removed. [Likely pissing off one or more people along the way.] Of course, my well reasoned argument about how copyright law really protecting everyone was lost in the removal. Best to take up the discussion over in the Copyright Forum.
