Start changing your bias. Go to 0 first to see if it will work (sometimes it does). Then start making it larger. There's a writeup on shadows here in the forum. You can find the link up in the banner. Odds are, you're going to have to go to a different lighting scheme (Environmental Lighting) or a glowing sphere with GI to get a result you're going to be happy with. This is because you have objects which are in tight proximity to each other. Soft shadows work for some scenes but are limited in others. -Kix

Thanks Kixum, Excellent write up on soft shadows. Reducing the bias to 0 improved the floating shadows a little bit. It will have to do for now - hopefully only I will know the shadows aren't too accurate, but if I can see then someone else might - it's only for a low res presentation anyway. Hopefully this will be fixed in future releases. I don't have time to play with GI because it's one of those "you want a picture? when? tomorrow???? No problem" Thanks, A

You can always fix the detached shadows in an image editing software package like Photoshop -- it's not an answer within Carrara, but sometimes you have to bring in other packages....
