Hi all I need some guideance here. Is there any quick way of convert BUMP map files that are saved as JPG back to BUMP maps ? Or is there a quick way to do it in Poser ? The reason I ask is that I have the Gothic Armor Legendary textures and when I apply the texture using the MAT icon under the Pose section it asks me about a dozen times to 'Please locate xxxx.bum file' I have to then locate the JPG and click on it so it converts the JPG to a BUM file for that particular part then it asks again and again. What I would like to do is convert all the bumpmap files to actual BUM files before I start playing with this set. Any ideas or any progs out there that I can use to do this conversion ? I am using Poser 4 Pro Pack. Thanks in advance. :)

pro pack doesn't use bum files it only uses jpg, your best bet is to grab a copy of CorrectReference (link provided) & run it on your runtime folder that way it won't ask for bum files any more :)c1rcle posted Tue, 04 February 2003 at 2:29 AM
ps CR changes the references in your cr2/pz2 files to look in the right places for jpg files instead of just pointing in the vague direction of the texture folder.

Thanks for the info I am running Correct Reference now it looks like it might do the job. One question I have though. I did'nt think you could just merely rename a *.bum file to a *.jpg file ? I could be wrong but I was under the impression that it would mess the bump mapping up ? Thanks again for the info provided thus far :)

c1rcle, Thanks a million for that link. That little program works an absolute treat. It used to take some time to find the correct textures now it is pretty much instant. Thanks again )

CorrectReference won't convert the jpg bump files to bum. What I do is find the folder in question. Then I load a prop (I usually use the ball from Poser Prop Types), and apply a bump map to the prop. Poser offers to convert the jpg file to bum. Do this till all the jpg bump maps are converted. Then run CorrectReference and ensure that all texture references are correct. Then load the actual product, and everything works fine.

Pro pack will NOT convert jpg's to BUM's Only the regular P4 did that. Pro Pack and Poser 5 uses a bum if it's there, but otherwise it uses the jpg. I think there's some way om making a green image and name that bum. Something with bums really being weird bmps... But I don't remember. It's been a while since I read it and since I had Pro Pack and P5 I didn't really bother.

You just can't put the words "Poserites" and "happy" in the same sentence - didn't you know that? LaurieA
Using Poser since 2002. Currently at Version 11.1 - Win 10.

Actually, the best thing to do would be to open the MAT files in a text editor, and do a find/replace of .bum with .jpg and resave them.

Thanks for all the great feedback. Correct Reference has done the job supberbly. It also DID rename all the BUM files to JPG files as well. This is one little program I think I will be using more of. Thanks again all :)
