Subject: Spotlights

I know how to create a spotlight, but how do I make that spotlight shine on the ground so that I get a cool looking spotlight?

After you've created the light, select Point At in the Object menu, and select the Ground, or whatever object on the ground you want it to shine on. Presto!

I think what Josiah wants is volumetric lighting, which is of course not possible in Poser. I have found the spotlights to be not worth a crap for any purpose. -Darth_Logice

I guess what I wanted was volumetric lighting. I guess I'll have to take it into Bryce. Oh well.

Have you tried making a cylinder/cone with a high transparency setting? Not volumetric but you can fudge it a bit. Attach a spotlite to the top and play with Starting and Ending angles. MadRed, master of the cheesy low-rent work-around...

While the spotlights won't give a volume appearance, I usually light my figures exclusively with spotlights. They are far from useless, and especially nice for figure studies. You can control exactly where light falls on your figure with spots, something that's not possible with the default lighting. It takes considerably more work, but the results can be very nice. After choosing "point at," use your translate dials to position your light so that it's in front of your figure, and is in the proper location/distance from your subject. Most of the time, I light a figure with 4 or more spotlights - sometimes as many as 8. -sk
