How can I get to the Material Editor in Bryce so I can import a PICT file? I want to make a carving in a Egyptian column, with hieroglyphic patterns, but I can't seem to get it. Thanks!

Ok, here's what you do: First, select the object you want to apply the texture to. Then, click the little M button to open the materials lab. Now, if there's no texture already there, click next to the top "diffuse" in the first slot, Channel A. This will bring up a texture. Click the little P under the texture, and it will change to an image texture. Click the button above the P to open the image texture editor. Click Load on the rightmost box and find your pict file. It should show up fine. If you want to use a bump map with it, place the bump map in the middle box, and don't forget to set the bump in the mats lab to channel A as well and set the slider as desired. Did you follow that? Thanks for your help Rosh! This helped me a lot. I used the TerraCotta Mat and for some reason, after I applied the PICT file, it came out VERY light and it doesn't look like TerraCotta at all. One other thing. Maybe I didn't do something right, but the PICT file was supposed to 'carve' into the object, instead it just came out like someone painted it...

Ok, I got the carvings somehow, but I still can't control the color. It comes out a whole new color and texture from what I am selecting. Also, I found out that the carving does not work with every mat. Like the TerraCotta doesn't work and the Desert Sandstone works, but the color is messed up.

Yeah, "carving" a material in like that requires the use of a bump map.. which needs to be grayscale. Adding colored "carving" like things to an existing material is kind of tricky.. Play around, with this little trick in mind: You can apply two materials to the same value (diffuse, ambient, etc) by ctrl-clicking in a second channel on the same value... Doing this maps them interestingly, so you'll have to play around with it, but it might manage to get your texture how you want it. =) Rosh

to change the lightness or darkness of a picture, in the pict loader, above the second window, is a small button that's half black and half white. if you click that it will change the picture to a negative image and this allows Bryce to read it differently. You might also check and adjust your ambient levels and reflection levels
