might as well get back to normal life, right folks? So i figure, I had an idea for an experimental video earlier today (videography and photography are closely related after all), and I thought I'd share. The pic is a basic storyboard sketch or so, done with hella wicked prismacolour markers (damn they rule... though the little sketch may not, heh heh). Basically, the idea is to record several phrases pertinent to an idea (I'm thinking along the lines of domestic abuse, or abuse in the domestic, whichever makes more sense to me, I havent decided), break them apart into various words syllables and phoenems. Then, I'd load them into Reason (propellerheads.se if yer interested), and put'em through either the Redrum drum machine or NN-XT sampler (likely the drum machine, for reasons concerning the fact that it concerns percussion, which can loosely be related to the topic at hand... and the fact that I can't figure out the damn nn-xt sampler...), and have it play out in various patterns, depending on how i decide to set it up. Reason allows for damn near infinite customizability, so who the heck knows what I'll end up doing. After I finish the audio aspect (I'll be shooting the video FOR the audio, rather than vice versa), the idea is to get a miniDV cam from school, and set it up in my room with the framing so it would be like the still image above against me. I haven't decided on the lighting set up yet, though I figure I'm gonna keep it a static setup unless i can get someone to do exactly what I would want otherwise while filming, which I doubt I'd be satisfied by... The eye is capable of speaking worldws of emotions to another person. Simple looks, gestures, and words can be conveyed by nothing more than a subtle blink and a slight glaze over. Basically, I will be shooting one solid take, prolly about 1-3 minutes, of my eyes, which will be doing lord knows what. It'll be somewhat spontaneous, meaning I'll have somewhat thourough knowledge of the audio that'll be playing in the background (I'll be muting it on the tape track, and reinserting in post production, otherwise it'll sound like sheisse), but otherwise, no cuts, and I figure no more than 3-4 takes. I also may do one or two of those takes with the audio playing maybe a few bpm slower, along with shooting the video at a slower frame rate (if possible on the cam, for the price it should be), which may give a better feel for me personally. We'll just have to see. Otherwise, I'm kinda curious as to possible insights or things to consider others may put forth. The world of video isn't really old to me, however i haven't done anything in many moons, and certainly not since I've fallen in love with all things acoustically related. hmm, gonna have to find some Nam June PAik work for some inspiration... fiction incidently, someone would like to thank everyone for their kind words in a previous thread. That someone truly appreciates it.
