Im am very happy that we now have a 1-10 scale rating system here at renderosity, but I hope that it isnt used like the 1-5 scale was. we seemed to give out very high ratings way too easily in the past, and now that we have a better system we can be a little less easy with the ratings. To get to the point, Please dont give out 10's and 9's unless something was done VERY WELL. I hope that the ratings given will now be more accurate.

Actually, I think the comments are more valuable than the actual numeric rating. To that end, I wish the Gallery would be modified to make it easier to enter comments: 1. make it a TEXTAREA instead of an INPUT a 2 line TEXTAREA would suffice, heck just being able to see more than 20 characters of what I've typed into that tiny INPUT line would be welcome 2. allow more than 255 characters of comments even the next power of 2 up (to 511 characters) would let us enter a full sentence or two, not just sentence fragments. The disk space required to store the comments would still be limited.

The other problem is that one low rating could knock some one off the boards. I think you should score a work on the a different system where each entry is squared and totaled for the best ratings. That way an image with two tens would rate lower than an image with 5 tens and one seven. Under the current system, the two tens would rate higher because of the law of averages. I square the numbers to give a higher weight to the high score example: one 10 rating =100 points where as a three would only add 9 points. I also believe a 1 is better than nothing because at least a work was worth commenting on.
