Hi, in Infini-D it is possible to use environmental maps to simulate reflections in reflective surfaces. (So if you make a chrome sphere you dont have to actually put real objects around it for it to reflect them.) Is it possible to do this in Carrara??? Thanks

I believe you can add the enviromantal map to the reflection channel of the shader and you will get that same affect. Not sure though haven't really tried it.

In the reflection channel, it will just control how reflective the object is, not look like it is reflecting. Try mixing it with your base color in the color channel. That's the best way if you want a global environment map. If you want a different map on each object, Carrara doesn't really support it. You have to fake it or do different renders and put it together in post production. Eric Winemiller Digital Carvers Guild Freeware and commercial 3D extensions http://digitalcarversguild.com

Great!!! Thanks for all the help. I think that some of the better features of Infini-d were lost with its integration with Ray Dream. I think it was way easier to add colours and textures in Infini-d. But that's just my opinion (since Ifini-d was my first 3D application. I will of course try all your suggestions. thnx again, c9
