18 inches?!? Like I've always said, it depends on where you START measuring! Now that's real snow! Happens here every 20 years or so. sigh So what IS making those holes anyway? Something's letting the snow sink down. A hole, or maybe perhaps heat?

Here I am in northern Illinois, and the ducks are still around. Seems screwy when the ducks stay, and the snow goes south for the winter. It's disappointing, not much point in going outside here if it's all cold and no snow (not to mention no chance of practicing "rally" driving on the unplowed streets.) Oh well, at least somebody's got snow and enjoying it.

I've got it! According to Einstein's theories, space is a flat plane that occasionaly bend back upon itself and portions of it touch. At this junction, theory says that "wormholes" would form allowing for travel to distant sections of the universr by merely stepping into said wormholes....you've proven Einstein was right, you have wormholes on your balcony in the snow. BE CAREFUL WHERE YOU STEP!!!!!!!

Hahahahah!!! You've got the next "Mel's hole" in your yard.
Now don't go telling anyone, otherwise the government and pseudo-corporate agents will want it and take over. LOL... Yeah yeah, heheheheh... ;)
If you don't know what I'm refering to, just type in Mel's hole on your typical search engine. :P

"Mel's Hole" gave me 42,651 porn sites. Man, it's gonna take some time............... btw, those holes of yours look like they've been caused by snails. As you know, most snails hibernate, but when they get caught out moving from one hibernation spot to another (they do this in groups, as you can see), they still have to breath. Unfortunately the poor creatures find this difficult through a layer of snow (block your nose then shove a snowball in your mouth, you'll see what I mean.) So they use extra energy to generate heat and therefore stop the snow settling on them. They then rest until the snow stops to preserve energy. Because (like humans) most of their heat comes out of their heads, a tiny patch is also kept clear just in front of them. When they move away after the snow stops, they move slowly, so this patch is always clear enough for them to be able to keep going. When you dig down to see what's making the holes, the little tunnels get filled with snow from the vibration of your action, and the hole seems to be created from nowhere. True. (",)

Oh man...you guys been watching way too much TV. :) hehehe...looks like stuff that happens to snow on a deck (snow falls through the spaces between the slats). Talked to my mother today (she lives in Baltimore). They got about 27" and blizzard conditions (meaning 30-40mph winds to go with the snow). -=>Donald
