As fond as I am of beach scenes, I tend to avoid them because of the problem with shorelines. I can fix them in postwork, but others here have said there are ways to do just about anything if you're determined enough without the post, at least in proggies like Vue and Bryce. So here's what I've tried to do in a scene I'm working on. Where water meets the beach, I'd like a little broken up foam. Tried creating a small long terrain, nope. Tried various primitives...nope. Tried working with the terrain material to see if I could cheat and get the whitish color up where the water meets sand....no dice there. I just can't come up with an idea that seems to work at all. Additionally, the material of the foam escapes me. I know some folks use the milk material for foamy stuff, but I played with transparency, and put watery foam bumps and stuff, still ended up with crappy material. So....any hints, tips, clues, or ideas are more than welcome by yours' truly!!!!

Wow, thanks Guitta. I ended up painting some white bubbly looking things in Photoshop then importing them as an alpha plane, but they don't look very good, not like your example. So you flatten the terrain out real flat, and then either make it longer/wider or move it to a side to get the effect on the shore? I will look for that transparency map.

Thanks H-kana for this link and thanks Pmermino for your kind generosity in this info. I've been wrestling on this effect for awhile... ShadowWind

Well, I tried the terrain duplicating method, and couldn't quite get what I was looking for, so decided to go ahead and use the alpha plane. I re-did the alpha plane, and played with the transparency on it, and it ended up not looking that bad, I think. Image will be in gallery.
