I'm curious about an odd occurrance that I see occasionally in the forum. Note that I use "Mark all read" whenever I finish browsing the forum, so I expect to only see message threads with new messages in them whenever I return. Every once in a while, I see some very old threads pop up that have no new messages in them. Instead, what I see is that these threads were all started by the same person, and the first message in the thread has been deleted. Sometimes there are 10 threads all with the first message deleted. Theories: 1) Somebody quit the site, and the site automatically deletes all threads started by them. 2) Somebody got pissed at Renderosity, and deleted every message belonging to a thread they started (not real likely) 3) The moderators got pissed at somebody, and etc. etc. 4) gremlins Any ideas?

  1. The person deleted his/her own message because he/she decided, for any number of reasons, that he/she didn't want it posted. Any time a person deletes his/her own message, the whole thread shows up as if a new message had been posted. As I just did when I decided I needed to edit my original posting.

Ah. That makes sense if you think of "new" as meaning a new -development- in a thread instead of a new message!

1) Somebody quit the site, and the site automatically deletes all threads started by them :

no it doesn't work like that. Messages are left here... like memories...

2) Somebody got pissed at Renderosity, and deleted every message belonging to a thread they started (not real likely) :

yep, quite unlikely... but I already saw this. A member carefully deleting all his messages and answers. Cleaning before leaving, I guess...

3) The moderators got pissed at somebody, and etc. etc.

no sir. We don't delete messages just for fun. A message will be deleted only if it's against our TOS (asking for illegal stuff, including porn images, etc...)

4) gremlins

well... we have a few of them here. But they are (I hope) under control.

5) The person deleted his/her own message because he/she decided, for any number of reasons, that he/she didn't want it posted.

Dialyn got it right !

There's been a few times I've seen where people have deleted every post of their's that they could find, right before they leave to never return. Usually trouble makers that had a lot of members here, pretty ticked-off at them. When you see somthing like that happen, it's almost always a GOOD thing.

There are a few posts I've made to threads that were then locked that I wish I could delete. Sometimes you post in haste and regret in leisure. :(

I recently removed some of my pictures as unfortunately the relationship with the model that I used for the textures broke up. just out of respect for her, nothing to do with Poser or the comunity.

Thanks for the responses. Deleting everything before leaving is a lot a work for a place you never expect to return to (unless you are significantly anal). I guess it's a way to make a statement (I'm not sure which one, however).
