Well, I finally received Poser 4 and the Pro Pack and have been playing around with it. However, I haven't bought any of the model sets yet. While I've always admired the artwork I've seen, I've never tried to make anything myself. I always wondered "how'd they do that???"
Anyway, now that I'm starting to learn what PS7 and Poser can do, what models (in your opinion) should I first buy to practice with? I was thinking about Vicky 2 and maybe a couple of the morph programs to add to her.
Any advice you care to give a hopeless noob will be put to good use. Thanks =)

V2 is a good figure to start with. The model (I refuse to call a computer artefact "she") comes with a variety of built in morphs. Why not consider getting a couple of really good texture/character packs, available in the Rosity Marketplace? I believe the Victoria 2 CD is for sale here, too. A very good value for money pack, IIRC.

I went to DAZ's site and found they have a downloadable V2 program for under $40. Since I'm trying to keep my budget under $75 to start with (I know....impossible, right?), I figured I'd buy that and a texture pack for her. Would this give me something to start off with, or is it better to buy the CD? $75.00 will at least get me a one foot deep hole into the money pit...I wonder how far I'll end up digging? Hey, I could buy a ladder prop to get myself out. :P Thanks, btw...you've given me a great idea of what my first render will be =)

The CD will get you hair and clothes to go with your model, whereas the V2 from DAZ will get you... Victoria 2. No clothing, no textures, no hair.

The cd includes: vickie 2 and some of her accessories like textures, clothing etc. Another possibility until u are ready to go further~ the Vicky 1 and Michael 1 cds at amazing savings. The cd's would give u complete models with all of the necessary accessories to play with. If you buy the models, their textures, morphs, hair, clothing, poses and any other add-ons seperately it adds up to a lot more. You can find lots of free additions to compliment her in the form of textures for vickie herself, her clothing, free hair, free morphs, shoes etc in the various sections of the poser free areas on RR and also on other sites like 3dcommune, RuntimeDNA, 3D-Arena, Big-I, Poser Pros, PoserStyle; a lot of the Japanese Poser sites also provide wonderful free add ons for Vicky etc. Some of the best "Free Hair" sites include DigitalBabes, MayaStudio et al. If you look at the side menu for the Renderosity Web Ring listing, you will find some amazing sites that offer a hidden wealth of knowledge and products that can help :)

I would recomend buying V2 and Mike2 if you can. There are many many free models and textures here in freestuff that will fill out the collection until you can buy more commercial products. Also, that will give you a chance to get used to the model, and get more ideas of what you want to do with it. Why v2 rather than v1? simple - bodyshapes. Victoria is nice, but the range of bodytypes possible with v2 is phenominal. Then add Capces studios excellent Roxanne (for v1, but you can copy morphs over) and you have one of the most versatile female models on the market. Definately worth the trouble. Same for mike3, but if you work primarily with female figures, you might be able to get by with the bargain basement mike 1.
