Ok. I've got the idea because I just saw alvinylaya posting posted in the gallery his very first Bryce render (not bad at all, BTW!). I immediately thought it would be interesting (and, why not, hilarious) if we could do the same in the Forum by posting our very first Bryce render (or, at least, the oldest Bryce pic we can find in our HD's). So... I challenge you! Yes, you all! Put aside the justified shame and show us what you weren't still capable of! :-D LOL... this is sooo funny, I hope you will find it funny as I do. Being the one who threw the first rock, I of course won't hide my guilty hand. Above you can see my very first masterpiece, composed in 1998 with Bryce2 (and please note the very original title...) -- nothing to be surprised if after this brilliant image I left Bryce for a year or so... Stefano

I really thought those vicous critics would feast on it LOL.

Here's mine - Bryce 1 - Sept 94. Like just about everyone else that's new to 3D, reflective spheres totally blew me away! The render took a coupla hours on a 25MHz LC III Mac.

That's ok, we all somehow begun with the reflective sphere somewhere... this is my VERY first, but it was done with POVRay (you had to input every detail in a text editor before start rendering!) POVRay is still out there, and has improved a whole lot. Plus, it's free and has the sourcecode of public domain. They're simply great.

Top one "Ice Wiz" was Bryce 5 demo, Poser demo, & 90% PhotoShop. I used the eye from an ad on Renderosity front page. LOL Second one "Fly Ball" was My new copy of Bryce 5 and Poser demo. I think I was still cranking up the old PII 500mgz. After that I went to Crome on Ocean stuff. hehe

Doublecrash posted Mon, 03 March 2003 at 1:41 PM

C'mon, AgentS, we don't believe it! You showed already a very good feel for reflections and "disrupted" texturing... show us the real one! :-) (j/k???)

Z_Shadow posted Mon, 03 March 2003 at 1:53 PM

This is the oldest I could find. Back in 1999. The stripes on the candy canes were done in photopaint. I didn't know a thing about manipulating textures or editing terrains. AAMOF I still don't.

Not my absolute first, but within the first week or so, anyway, earliest one I could find. I originally thought I'd do an animation with it, then I learned that things like this can't be animated (easily) (without weeks of tiresome labor) in bryce. Anyway. laugh at the corny image..

Erlik posted Mon, 03 March 2003 at 2:55 PM

Do you want drafts and partial renders or a first complete picture? This is the first picture I felt was complete and could allow it to go into the wide world. :-) Bryce 5.

Here's the oldest thing I have...there is older stuff but it's on a hard drive in a closet at my parent's house. And I ain't gonna try to fire that sucker up just to get a worse image than this one. :^) This one's about 3 years old and made with Bryce3D about 6 months before I upgraded to Bryce 4. This image came out too dark. Look closely and you'll see the gag. Such that it is. Oh, I feel so dirty.

Ok here is mine. Actually the first one I did is much better than the second one. I have not been using bryce for very long but have improved some I think. 1/11/03. I even named it: My First Landscape. How original is that.

SevenOfEleven posted Tue, 04 March 2003 at 12:27 PM

Some of this early Bryce stuff looks pretty cool. My early Bryce renders were landscapes then I joined a gallery much later and they were not into landscapes so I stopped making them. This picture 10/27/1995 on a powermac 9500 I think. Don't remember how fast it was.

I'm an avid jigsaw puzzler and I finally found a computer program I really liked and it used any image, especially 800-600. That fits most computer wallpapers. So, I began a quest to find images I liked that I could use at jigsaw puzzles. That led me to a lot of sites where people used mysterious programs to make them -- mostly Bryce. What was this strange program, Bryce? Then I found Renderosity and started reading about this *Bryce* thing. Hum....it's a 3D program. Well, that sounded cool. Wonder how I go about getting it. Look! There's free trial version. Well, how cool! It's not that I'm computer illiterate...quite the contrary. It's just that my experience is in the world of type, not images. They tell me I'm a computer programmer (even if that was a life time ago). I've taught computer courses, I do curriculum editing for a living and use some 2D skills. But I've only just discovered first hand the world of 3D. This was done late October '02 after having played with Bryce for maybe 3 weeks. There was another thread where folks talked about how happy they were when they got votes in a challenge or won one.... If only you all could have heard the squeal I let out when I saw my first vote in last month's challenge - a squeal that became a shriek when I placed third. ~sigh~ Some things *just might* be better than sex! :o)
