Hello everybody, I need help ! for once ;) I've tried to install Carrara on a Mac and Carrara refuses to launch, it says it needs 5MB to run the app :( . So i've tried to up the RAM allocated to Carrara but still it doesn't launch . It's on a G3 with 128 megs ram with Carrara unpatched . Thanks in advance ! litst

What system version? Either way, you shouild have plenty if your not running something else. I hope I'm not insulting you but, did you check what the system is currently using? Under the apple menu you'll find "About this Macintosh." That will tell you how much RAM is being used by each program running.

I've seen that bug many times. Restart (after turning on Virtual Memory to physical RAM + 1). Then go to "About this computer" and see how much free RAM is available. Set Carrara 10 MB less than the free RAM, then restart. It might run after that, but I really think you need at least 200 MB (256 MB physical RAM). Turn off virus-software, TurboMem, RAM Doubler etc. Run with minimum extension set (Quicktime and CD-ROM).

Well I would up the minimum and prefered memory to 32 / 85 respectivley. Depending on the OS version and what extensions are loaded, the Mac may startup and use a good chunk of that 128MB. Paul

Thanks a lot, it works :) Looks like Carrara 2 really takes a lot of RAM on Mac, even on OS 9 . Thanks again, litst

With RAM starved machines running OS9, you can reclaim much of what the system takes by keeping a lean system folder. It takes a little practice, but you can eliminate much of the stuff that Apple gives you.

For example, my OS 9 was taking about 50 megs. After carefull optimization I got it down to 27 megs. This is minor if you have plenty of RAM, but if you only have 128, it can make a big difference. -pix
