I originally planned the Rogue Archer for V3 as a texture-only pack for under $10.

However, it is a Rogue "Archer", so I thought I'd take a shot at making a simple morphing smart prop bow (which was a learning experience, but not too bad...) for promo pics.

The experiment was a success, so now the question:

Do you all think I should stick to a texture only pack , even if it means re-naming the product (to something without the "archer" in it) and release next week for under $10?

or...

Take an extra week or so, add a hip quiver and a smart prop arrow, maybe even some boots, and charge a few bucks more?

How much more would a package like that be worth to you?

Gorodin posted Thu, 13 March 2003 at 2:19 AM

Here's what the rest of the package looks like. There are 8 textures in all. This picture shows all the brown leather variations.

Here are the black variations.

I have also included 2 mat poses for switching the specular appearance of all the variations between Satin and Gloss.

Only for V3??? Aw, come on.

GraphicFoxx posted Thu, 13 March 2003 at 4:39 AM

A possible third option for you. Make separate packs. Do the texture pack, and for the bow and what-not, go further with it, making more accessories. So maybe a different variation of the bow, different quivers, different arrows, maybe a hay bale target, things like that. Anyway, just a suggestion. Those texture look really good though.

Awesome texture work... perhaps you might want to consider a "hunter green" kinda color? A conforming quiver would be a definite bonus, specially with an "empty" and "full" morph, and various colored fletches. Definitely charge the few bucks more! :o) - M

Smart prop quiver, morphing bow, arrows with various colored fletchings, and, maybe a simple target prop, and a hunter green variant = $$5.00 - $6.00 more woould be worth it! mike

I know this would be difficult to model, but what about adding a archer's glove too? With all the other props and textures, I would definitely be willing to pay more. Anyway the textures look fabulous. :)

I say with the extras and looks good

MachineClaw posted Thu, 13 March 2003 at 10:07 AM

This is just me however the bow looks fantasy and the textures you have shown look sci-fi. The sugjested green or 'woodlands' textures would do better for Archer in my opinion. If you changed the bow to a more advanced techy type bow and did all the arrows, etc that has been mentioned then the textures work and you'd have a sci-fi archer. depends on which way your trying to head. texture pack alone $10 easy. $15 with the props. That's me. (I keep looking at the textures and the name Rogue Archer and seein' Chewie's crossbow laser rifle in her hand from star wars) I'm just not much into fantasy stuff unless it's classical D&D etc. that 'typical' look, so it's hard for me to overcome the Sci-Fi'ness. I hope that helps some.

I'd say go with the extra props Gorodin, and put it around the $15-$16 range! Looks great so far!

Gorodin posted Thu, 13 March 2003 at 12:18 PM

Some great feedback, thanks! Here's a more specific question: Everyone seems to agree that the package with props would be worth the extra money. But would you be more likely to buy it with the props vs. the cheaper price? Other notes: If I do the props, I would redo the bow, maybe in 2 different styles, both fantasy and "tech". Though in order to do the models justice I may need to enlist the help of a modeler :-) I already have a green version of the textures, but I thought it was too bright. Maybe I will tone them down and post some renders, get some opinions.

MachineClaw posted Thu, 13 March 2003 at 12:39 PM

Me personally I have already found some free bows n props, regular bows, a quiver, and arrows. So unless it was something different than the bow you showed, or the props were something really different, then I'd just grab the textures. Then again, it does depend on the total package and what's included. Package Arizona 2024 is a good example (in the marketplace). texture, props, hair, or just texture, 2 different packages. my 2 cents, hope it helps.

Gorodin posted Thu, 13 March 2003 at 12:48 PM

That's an interesting idea... 2 packs, one with props, one without...

GraphicFoxx posted Thu, 13 March 2003 at 3:48 PM

I'd say go with the two packages. Just textures for x amount, and the full meal deal with everything else for y price. I think you'd make people happy that way.

SydneyKeys posted Thu, 13 March 2003 at 6:45 PM

Only for V3??? Aw, come on. - Okay I admit it's kinda redundant but it's my feelings on the subject to :O( If you sell it at Rocity I'd say 2 packs, if you go for Daz, 1 pack. You could call it a "Ranger" set also, it's a little more ambiguous .........and with this texture set Dark Ranger/Light Ranger might be another way to go .....I dunno really, marketing isan't my strong suit. Did I say ..... Only for V3??? Aw, come on. ...........opps guess I did ;O) G-

Gorodin posted Thu, 13 March 2003 at 6:55 PM

LOL As many issues as I have with the V3 mapping (minor issues, granted), I would never be able to get this design to look this good on the V2 casuit. Also, doing this for 2 figures means twice as much work, which means it takes time away from other projects and I would also need to charge more. :-)

Gorodin posted Thu, 13 March 2003 at 7:04 PM

Attached Link: Concord Navy

Plus, knowing me, If I did Vicky2, I would HAVE to go ahead and do a Michael version too... it would be like the Concords sets all over again! :-P The concord series, for example, was originally planned as 4 textures each for Vicky and Mike per set. Now they all include V3, and the latest, Concord Navy, has *12* maps per figure, and a total of 62 material variations! I've got to reign it in at some point. :-) **Alert: Shameless Plug** BTW, Concord Navy just went on sale today at DAZ! :-)

SydneyKeys posted Thu, 13 March 2003 at 7:18 PM

Ouch.....Gail was smacked down.......and goes back to work, I get your point......the set is great though >^_^< One Question........what's it look like on the Male version of Vicki 3?

Gorodin posted Thu, 13 March 2003 at 7:23 PM

It probably looks pretty funny! I'll give it a try tonight. If it's not too gross, I'll post a pic.

SydneyKeys posted Thu, 13 March 2003 at 7:27 PM

Kewl .............I hope ;^)
