Subject: Any way to clear image maps?

So when you're working with Poser and loading texture maps, it stores them in that long list. In particularly complicated scenes, that list can get pretty long. If you start a new image, the old image maps stay even though you're not using them any more. And scrolling through that list when it's longer than the screen can hold is a pain. Is there any way to clear the list of image maps? Python? I'm working in P5. If anyone doesn't know the list I'm referring to, let me know and I'll take a screenshot.

Interesting question. I've been annoyed by that too. At the Python level, a quick look shows that Python can learn how many image maps are loaded, but can't do anything about clearing the list.

Have you looked at MatPose Edit? It can remove/edit materials. I haven't tryed in a multi-character scene.

I must remember to remember what it was I had to remember.

at this time the only way to remove maps from memory is to restart poser :( sorry guys.. been like that since 4.....

When I've purchased various textures and models, many of them come with a Pose (mor or mat?) file that changes all the textures at once on a figure. And one of them is "all white", this will clear all the textures from a figure in one click of a button! I don't know how they work, but I suppose you could create one yourself to do the same thing?

But the AllWhite mat doesn't remove the texture from MEMORY, and that is what is needed.

Yep, it's removing it from memory that I'm looking for. MATs'll remove it from the figure, but it stays in the materials list. Oh well, I didn't have much hope for a solution, but thought I'd ask. Thanks for the responses :)

Don't blame me! ;) That was one of my wishes for the now moot Poser5 Wishlist. Options suggested were: -Clear All -Clear Selected There was something else, but I don't remember what it was.

It doesn't save the WHOLE images, just a thumbnail of them. That's why the textures in preview (in full-textured mode) can look so blocky...the thumbnail is applied and stretched. So it's not as bad as it looks. Poser still hunts down the real file when you go to do a render.

Do all of these files appear on a list stored WITH THE FILE? If so we could go into the text version of the file and...

Only the images used are stored in the pz3. But as I said, it's really not such a big deal since the entire image isn't saved in memory anyway...just a thumbnail.

Maybe it'll be fixed in SR3, since it was one of the things promised for P5. That and memory leaks...and Poser not completely letting go when exiting...and ... well, nm.

True, the entire image isn't stored. My beef is where you go to the Image Map node on the materials editor, click on the Image_Source, then click the list next to the arrow to select an image already in memory. If you're working on a complex scene, or if you've been working on one scene and now you're on another, the list can get LOOONG. And scrolling down to the end of it can get tedius since you have to click. sigh oh well, guess it's just something to live with. Not a biggie, I guess. Jackson -- we can hope it'll get changed :)

In P4, I save the Pz3, saves only what's used. Then I quit Poser. Double click on the Pz3. It loads every thing back the way you had it, including lights, but all the baggage is gone. Don't know if it's the same with P5.

I've begun to go back to the many WIPs that I had abandoned due to an overfull memory list and try the 'save and restart' method on them. On most it works, even if it does take more than one try. I was beginning to feel like a fraud, being here in the forum every day, but no finished works to show ;) Problem was, I only seem to do large, complex scenes, and every one of them had the 'magical disappearing textures' somewhere in them, due to so many textures having been used. And it can be tricky to get the missing texs to reappear, even after the list is shortened. This is a serious bug, IMHO, that should have been addressed in P5.

that why i save and iam doing the final render so that my computer will seem fresher with memory
