LOL....AWESOME!!! Out of curiosity what was the render time with that many lights? I think lighting is the next bundle of sticks I want to try to tackle.

LOL, That's great! I've used a few of the semi spherical sets of lights with variations, but I like that effect. Thanks

This guy is AWESOME! I've always wanted to model little critters and cartoon characters like this one. Would you mind posting a wireframe image of the metaballs used to make him? Or email it to andy@bettermagic.com if you don't want to post it. I need to get the feel for character modeling with metaballs if I'm ever going to do more of it!

That's cool. I've just been trying some metaballs on a character - I gave up halfway and finished it off with cylinders and spheres! Can't wait to see the finished pic... :)

That's funny. What is he guarding the ball (egg?) from? Definitely looks distraught... LOL!

I love him! :o) I am amazed at the versitility of these metaballs. One thing I'm curious about is the scale that everyone is working on to get the effects they are. I tried to make toes on my mouse's forefeet but they kept blurring together into a lump. I finally settled for doing without. The second image you posted looks like the character is teeny. If he is, did you make him big first, then rescale him?
Rochr posted Sat, 22 March 2003 at 8:37 PM
Its better to make a large scene instead! That gives you the ability to zoom in to tiny details. For most of my renders, the default plane usually ends up as a tiny dot somewhere. :) If you compare the character with the default ground plane, youll see that hes actually normal size.

eelie, to keep the toes from blending group the metaballs that make up one toe.

This is fabulously both cute and funny! Well done Rochr! Tell us tho, is the little guy hiding behind the ball? Trying to stop the ball from rolling over him? Something is coming at him and hes pinned against the ball? Catchy subject title. Eelie, dont forget you can stretch and squash metaballs also.
Incarnadine posted Sun, 23 March 2003 at 10:59 AM
Not you best effort, so what! I still saved a copy 'cause it's still damn cute! serious giggle factor here.

Rochr, can you explain something? You say the blue metaballs are negative. But the effect is only visible on the mouth. No concavity on the belly, which is distinctly rounded.
