Can please anybody suggest a technique or filter or tut on how to achieve an oil on canvas effect for a scanned photo. I have an old photo and need to make it looking as a oil painting. Thankful, Aswad.

Jasc has a 30 trial of Virtual Painter which is for Paint Shop Pro or other image editing program that supports Adobe compatible plug-ins. It has 12 brush stroke filters, one being Oil Painting and 6 background materials.

You might also check out a couple of free programs, Pixia and Dogwaffle.

You have to use a few layers : oil painting are more contrasted, so try to change the fusion mode and opacity. Oil is glossy : duplicate the basic layer then apply a plastic wrap filter and change the fusion mode and opacity to achieve a delicate style. You can add one more layer just over the basic one with the same pic and a palette knife filter to smudge a little. When you have finished, flatten the layers, then duplicate the result and do a texture filter with very low settings, and control the result with a mask. So, try, try a lot !. :)

Thank you so much for helpful comments! I downloaded "Virtual Painter" already, hasn't tried any of other ways. I'll try and show you the results! Thank you, Aswad.
