Hey. ;) I'm trying to learn Bryce 5 better. I've got the basic and all that stuff. I just have a small problem. When I open Bryce 5, I can't use my start menu, I have to alt+tab to my other programs. I'm using Windows XP Home. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance! (Sorry if this has been asked already)

I don't have XP but from what you describe it sounds like you have other applications opened and sucking up RAM that Bryce needs a large overhead of to do it's tasks. If you have other apps opened, try closing them before you launch Bryce. I also hear that XP comes with a lot of on board baggage, look into riding yourself of some of the unnecessary stuff.

I may be mistaken... but I believe it's a Bryce/WinXP thing. Nothing like this happened to me when I was running Bryce with Win98se... but Bryce seems to take over the area of the screen occupied by the taskbar in XP, but doesn't refresh it. When running with Bryce maximized, everything on the taskbar, including the clock, will stop updating. When Bryce throws up a long menu, such as the piece of one you've shown, that extends down to where the taskbar is, that area is not refreshed when the menu gets closed. So you sometimes end up with these fragments of Bryce menus stuck down where the taskbar should be.... minimize Bryce, and they disappear as the taskbar returns to normal. This is only my experience, though... many have said that they experience no problems with Bryce and WinXP... I'm using XP Home, not Pro, so that may be the difference. I just deal with it.... :)

oops.. didn't mean to copy that whole thing... but that should pretty much explain what's going on... What I do in your case is just minimize Bryce first before doing anything else.

I often have that problem when using PSP or Bryce in WinME. I often also use Windows Mediaplayer to listen to some music while I'm working and if the start-menu doesn't come up I alt-tab to Windows Mediaplayer and maximize it. Usually the start-menu will then work again (sometimes takes a few seconds) then I can start any program I like. I also often have the explorer on so I can also start my programs from there.

I also have WinME and I have this same thing happen. My keyboard has a "windows" key and I can just hit that (which is like clicking the start button). That activates start and brings up the taskbar. Once I do that, it seems that Bryce doesn't try to use that area again. In fact, it ususally knows that from one use of Bryce to another but every once in awhile, it takes the taskbar away again.

antevark posted Mon, 24 March 2003 at 6:28 PM

i also got the same one, wanderer. bought it mid-december 2001, bout 3 weeks b4 the flatscreen came out. It's slow for 2 reasons: it wasn't top at the time, and it's over a year old.
