Does anyone know if there's any decent tree s/w out there for creating meshes for import into Bryce? I can't find anything and there's no way I'm going to create every branch and leaf in C4D :| I downloaded the X-frog trial version, my thinking being that in 30 days I could create enough trees to last a lifetime, but the ZIP file doesn't even work. Oh, and the s/w has to be free 'cos I've no money.

I downloaded a proggy called Treegenerator once. I'll see if I can google it up. It makes reaconable trees. About the same quality as brycian trees, but a bit different in style.

Wow, the first 404 error I ever encountered on google! Works now though.

There's also a program called tree druid. It's available as plug-in for several 3d packages and maybe even as standalone.

Cheers - I'll give treegen a go and see what happens :)

The last time I tried TreeGenerator, when I imported the mesh into Bryce, all the polygons had cracks between them. Smoothing the mesh only made them bigger. Not to mention the huge size of the file. tuttle, try L-System. Far from being intuitive, but it's based on the algorythms that are derived from the nature. http://www.geocities.com/tperz/L4Download.htm Treedesigner is apparently abandonware, since the author's page is still dead. It's at: http://www.simtel.net/pub/pd/10844.html You might also want to check BreezeDesigner with tree plugin. Not terribly good, but: http://www.imagos.fl.net.au/breeze/plugin/bdtree.htm Hmmm. Bioform is not exactly a tree designing program, but looks interesting regardless. Reminds me of X-Frog, and it's free. Supposedly needs POV-Ray: http://www.geocities.com/Paris/Metro/3115/ I'd recommend OnyxTree, but it's $500. :-) BTW, they are just coming out with version 6.

tuttle, I had the same problem with the Xfrog zip file. Note carefully the file size after download and what it should be when fully downloaded. Apparently the site, for some reason, cuts the download short not allowing you to get the full file. Hopefully you have a download software that allows you to resume downloads. It took me about 5 or 6 repeated downloads to get the complete file. Then and only then, did the zip file opened and decompressed.

I don't think 30 days (Xfrog) is hardly enough time to first learn the software and then output mass numbers of good quality, usable trees. The time limit counts down whether you use the software or not. So hopefully you'll have nothing else to do for those 30 days to be able to devote the full time to the program to meet your goals.

And of course, don't forget PlantStudio.

Erlik - thanks for the links. Could be interesting. And I found the gaps in the treegenerator mesh as well - very strange. I was experimenting with creating the tree roots in C4D and then the upper part in Bryce. It worked out OK but I'm after a more "ancient" look. I have plant studio - I quite like it, very easy to use.

I don't remember having gaps. I've used treegenerator trees on images at 6K resolution. At that size gaps should be clearly visible. I'll check and see wich version I have and if I also have gaps.

Hey, that bioform is pretty kewl, and yes it needs povray. Any ideas on how to convert to a poly model for use in Bryce?
