I just received my copy Poser 5 this week. I tried to use the instant registration many times, but CL's server never responded. I filled out CL's online registration form, however there was no place for the challenge code needed to keep my copy running after seven days. I've sent several emails and finally got an automated response. It said they could send me a cd with service release 2.1. But the Poser 5 manual says not to use a service release under number 3 with my version (5.0.2.262). Assuming CL actually sends it, will the service release cd fix my problem or screw up my version of Poser 5?

SR2.1 will update your copy to 5.0.2.268 & it will solve the registration problem, you'll probably need to reinstall tho to get it to work. Silly question, why are you waiting for them to send it when it's a free download from the website?

Thanks. I have a dial-up connection. The email suggested the cd if one only has a dial-up modem. It's odd that they were able to update the manual, but not the program that came with it.

ah dial-up should have realised that, maybe the version you bought was already on the shelf before SR2.1, but it does seem odd. Have you tried using getright? it's a download manager, it can restart a download from where it stops until you get the whole thing, might be quicker than waiting for the posted cd to arrive.

Thanks. I never heard of "getright." I'll have to check it out. Since I'm still working on projects with other 3D apps, and still going through the Poser manual (a printed manual is getting rarer these days), I'm less concerned with waiting for the disk, as I am with getting a response from an actual CL person. I get the feeling tech support isn't fully staffed--if it's staffed at all. So far this is not the support one wants when they by a new piece of software.

Um, I would download it-- I'm not sure anyone ever got one of those cds. In fact I'm stating it this broadly to be proven wrong. If you use Getright and setup a fairly large number of download channels it should be easier. I have a terribly slow inaccurate DSL and a download manager was my only hope. Emily

Thanks. I took the advice and downloaded SR 2.1 (it took well over an hour). It appears to have solved the problem. Still it would help if CL's website made it clear that they no longer use a challenge code/response code format (they still have a link somewhere on the site) and that the info in the manual is wrong. I'm sure I'm not the only one who was frustrated by this. Not a good way to create customer loyalty.

Gee, you should have been on this forum back in the pre-order days and the days of the first service patch. Er, then again, maybe not.
