Attached Link: Larger Size

One thing I absolute hate in Wings is that parametric texturing doesn't work. Aside from that, meh. Larger size available in the gallery -with more detail, etc. Comments and criticism welcome, sword modelled by yours truly, some textures from Animax, dragon head and wings imported from Poser. Enjoy.

Looks great, really a good modelling work. Later I will browse as usual the gallery and take a look at the larger size pic. Thumbs up! Stefano

Uhhh... Wings has a few options when making the UVmaps. Did you try 'em all? I like the projection way of mapping over the unfolding. Also note it's best to go with the higher resolution map settings since you'll have more room to work with. Pictured is a simple sword that I made and textured using wings and its mapping.

paul, I have yet to read a single help file in Wings. I'm still doing it blindfolded. All I do is select the polygons, assign a different texture name, export it to Bryce, and then just World or Object cubic the textures since para doesn't work. I have yet to learn how to properly UV map. It seems too difficult for me at the moment :(

had to double-check, thought I was in the Wings forum for a sec..;) most of the swords I see are about 25-35" or longer, depending on type and purpose. Calvary swords are longer, because you're swinging from a horse. Some of the Japanese companion swords (the one you use once you've lost) are a lot shorter. Anime swords are measured in feet; though they probably weight upwards of a hundred pounds in real life, this is anime after all..;) The Greeks had a spatha which was eventually down to 'kitchen-knife' size, the gladius was a bit longer than that, though known as a short sword. Anything longer than about 35" was commonly one-and-a-half or two-handed swords, like the claymore, etc.
(note, all measurements are 'mark 1 eyeball', haven't actually researched it..;) I'm impressed, my Wings knowledge is bumping against the 'how do I move 'a' over so I don't select it when I'm working on 'b'' level. Looks like I have a way to go

I love wings too, but haven't been able to create anything. Lack of tuts is one problem but I also think I lack the natural instinct it takes to shape stuff. These are both beautiful swords.

Uhh... So considering the size of my handgrip, my sword makes a reasonable length of around 2ft? (It's probably some kind of pirate sword.) I'm also guessing that draculaz dragon sword is a zweihander. Well, wings seems like a reasonable side topic in Bryce - it's free and it fills in a gap in modeling capability. So Brycers take what they can get. :) Now back to Draculaz question again... When you made the UV map in wings, did you save it before or after exporting your model from wings. If I recall, I think one has to save the UV in wings before exporting the model for it to work. I'm pretty sure mine worked ok using parametric mode. Also did you do anything to the image size of the map when post working it? (assuming you did) That can cause problems too. Hmmm... Too bad I can't see exactly where the hang up is.

Yep, it appears so: a short sword and a zweihander. although you'd need to make a different handle. This one goes on sabers, not on short swords. It might work if you make a wider, curved blade. Draculaz, make the transition between the edge and the tip smoother.

Both cool swords but errr...pauljs75...you wouldn't want to make yours a freebie would you? I need something exactly like that for a pirate project I am working on...

Heheheh... You know, I'm crazy enough to do that. Look around, and I'm sure it just might show up.

draculaz, nice bit of modelling, two issues though. 1 the bat(?) wings on the crossguard would do very rude things to one hands in usage. 2 same issue for the pommel. With choppers, when working with two hands, one is typically up at the crossguard (for pivot) and the other down by the pommel in order to maximize the leverage for the strike. One other little niggle, I would flatter the dragons head more to the plane of the blade, the more projection, the greater the liklyhood of snagging on draw or clothing.

Pass no temptation lightly by, for one never knows when it may pass again!
