The way I do it is very time intensive, and it also doesn't help when you start over 3 times, like I did on this one! This is still at a very preliminary level, only has the first layer of curls in place, but you can see where it is going. One thing I want to do on this one is get rid of most all of the "fit" morphs, it is going to be fitted via ghost parts when the conforming ones need a little help. They work better anyway, and have almost zero overhead. Poly count is just under 25,000 right now, I want to keep the final version around 40-45,000. Any yes, there is going to be a down-to-the butt version. I want to try all the versions via a switching geometry and a dial, not morphs, too, that should help with the conforming, too- if you morph hair long the fall-off zones stil work from the original state of the mesh. Now to finish it. I hate making hair!

You may hate it, but you are sure good at it and this is lovely. Sharen

But you do it so well. I buy very few $20 and over items for Poser but most of them are yours...

Lools cool. So few people do blonde hair. Just you and me for the most part. I think the hairline should be higher and rounder. Just a suggestion. Maybe flatten the crown a tiny bit. Either way I am sure it will be a hit.

Thanks Guys! Anton, yeah, I came to that conclusion too, sometimes it is really hard to judge how it is going to look until you get it into Poser, and then you see "Oh, it needs this, that and the other thing!" You version sure looks better! This is the most asmetrical hair I've tried, while I never do center part hair (Gee, do half and mirror, wow!), this one is total different on each side. I just wish I had a special Max comb to move the strands around an easier way!

Is there any way to show an irregular, micro-thin line of scalp at the part? It's rare to find that in Poser hair, and I think it would really add to the realism :)

Oh, Great. Jim's making a new hair. Where the hell's my wallet.....gotta make sure i got money available......every time he does this I gotta have it. I may need therapy. Nah.

If you hate making hair, why do it? Oh, I know, because we like buying it. :-)

Jim Burton posted Thu, 03 April 2003 at 7:47 AM

Yeah, it does sell pretty good. ;-) Plus I need something new once in awhile for my own renders, as I only use my own hair. Patricia- I'll have to try something, I was watching the girls in the Soap Operas yesterday, as I was working out on the exercise machines, and you often do see very, very fine strands right next to the scalp. I might be able to work some magic with the texture maps, at least.

Yeah, but the hair is sticking out away from her forehead like a hat or something. Shouldn't it be lying against the skin?

Jim Burton posted Thu, 03 April 2003 at 3:15 PM

Well, the style I'm shooting for does have a curl sticking out, I think that is from flipping the hair back on itself at the front, easier to do with hair than mesh. ;-) I think I'm going to do an inner skin for the hairline, I fitted one up to see what it would look like, I'll need one on the other side of the part too, but it looks workable, once I get the trans maps figured out.

Here is another progress pic. I'm still working on the hairline, I made a skullcap, which is turned off here, to see what it would look like. Never used a skullcap before. As you can see I threw away the inner skin, after all. Up to something like 110 curls, 45,000 polygons, I'm going to try and get it back to 42,000 or so. Name is going to be "New York Hair". (Gee, can I say that here? ) ;-)
