Recently it came to my attention that the first (and, until recently, ONLY) successful e-commerce ventures were porn sites. Now, this just now got me thinking - why not make the galleries and downloads at Renderotica pay/subscription based? The forums there can (and should) remain free, but by putting a fee on the galleries and downloads, you could do a sort of check on ages (in theory you have to be 18+ - or an emancipated minor - to get a credit card, so this would essentially make the 18+ concept there easier to enforce), make some revenue, and otherwise pretty much keep things as they are. It may be totally insane, but it's a thought... :-)

I can see where your coming from with this. Even though I do visit the Renderotica site occasionally, purely for artistic reasons of course :P I don't think I would pay a credit card subscription, because:- a) It would make it kind of sordid, like I'm paying to see porn (not my scene). b) If I did subscribe you can bet that my wife would see the transaction 'To Renderotica $xx' on the credit card bill, and I would really like to avoid the 'deaf and dumb breakfast' routine thanks very much :) Maybe I'm in the minority on this? The only times I've visited Renderotica were to download items mentioned here for scenes I was working on, so I'm probably not the best person to suggest this... :) Though I have to say some of the stuff I saw there (the stuff that didn't wierd me out totally - or gross me out as some did) I would have been willing to pay for... But, why would the money have to go to "Renderotica"? Why not Renderosity, since their run by the same people... Double blind! :-) I DID say it was an off-the-wall idea, didn't I?

Ok I'll do you a deal. If the transaction can come through from Renderosity, or some other innocent sounding name. And I can keep my eyes shut whilst on the site. Then I'll subscribe.. Well, maybe I'll risk just one eye.... :) Cheers Ian

don;t take this the wrong way.... but you're saying those of us..that frequent renderotica first.. and post there.. should support renderosity..????... i think that one will get you tarred and feathered guys.... the object is to find a way that all members of both sites... can contribute and support our sites

X has a valid point. thanks charlie for throwing an idea out. i apreciate ya taking the time. thanks bro!! we do run r'otica. it is a wonderful little backroom with some terrific people. just as i would not make people pay to visit the galleries at r'osity, i would not do it on r'otica. that and the numbers suggest that if one was to be supported, it would be the other way around ;) a working solution would include bringing something to the community as well. check out the next thread on one i've been thinking about but haven't posted about yet.

Oh, I agree with X. I thought it was really stupid when I first came up with it, until I remembered the 18+/credit card thing. And I was saying leave the message boards free; the galleries and maybe downloads would be fee based to pay for BOTH sites. Not necesarrily (sp?) fair, but workable. And I never said it was a GOOD idea, just an idea! :-)
