i'm having troubles trying to do a import from poser into bryce. both are 4th lvl forms. (cant afford number 5s yet for both) i either have to send in a error encountered, or it just wont give a message and kicks me back to desktop! is it possible thatt i may have too many objects in my sence already, or what. i've tried all the formats in poser to do a export. but trying to get the item(s) into bryce. no go on it

Does that Mean Bryce and Poser are both version 4? I think we just need a little more info. I have Poser 4, but Bryce 5, so I'm not sure what Bryce 4 will do vis a vis 5. I know that 5 can do .obj, .dxf, and .3ds imports, with .obj being the easiest for both programs. You might want to see how much memory you have in the computer, or what you have running in the background (both programs can demand a lot of a PC). Can you get us the message you're getting? I'm sure more folks will follow this post with more help, but this is just to help us help you. thanks.

You do use file>import to import your poser models do you? There's also an import function in the object library, but that one only works for bryce-native formats. If you import Wavefront OBJ models you should use file>import. I don't know how experienced you are with bryce, but it's a common mistake, so I thought I'd mention it.

Firekath, there's a program called Grouper (in the R'Osity Free Stuff, if I recollect), that can fix Poser to Bryce Import errors. I used to get nothing BUT errors every time I tried to import OBJs from Poser. Try running your OBJ's through the Grouper utility, and then import them into Bryce. The only drawback is that Grouper will ONLY work on OBJs, no other format.

Grouper should work but also check that any textures your using in poser do not have too long a filename. If they do, manual rename them with something short. Dont know the limit but i did get crashes on one texture once over and over until i was told to rename the long ones.

Check textures as above, Bryce won't import textures bigger than about 4000 x 4000 or with long file names. Barring that try running the model through UVMapper and/or Grouper.

I'm sure you know this but . . . Don't change the name of the original file - make a copy, rename that and set grouper up so it references the copy with the shorter name rather than the original.

Also, you can test the Poser-exported OBJ file's integrity for Bryce by just importing the Poser character into a blank Bryce scene. That way, you will know if you have too many objects in your Bryce scene... If THAT works, but you still can't import the figure into the scene that you are working on, then save the object to your User library and try to load it into your scene from there...

found out one prob was that i had too many objects already in the bryce scene. i tried in another bryce pic. and it worked ok
