Great looking character, Clint. Is this the same demon you were working on a long time ago? It looks like it to me.

wyrwulf posted Sat, 27 May 2000 at 10:29 PM
Just to save what little sanity I have, you made the demon in Creature Creator, and modified it in RDS long ago, and now have re-modified it in Carrara?
ClintH posted Sat, 27 May 2000 at 10:50 PM
Yea - Im trying to get it going in Carrara.. Decided to do a few new figures for poser. Clint

How does one do the joints for Poser, so that it can be posed? Marque
ClintH posted Mon, 05 June 2000 at 8:20 PM
hehe...Its a REAL bitch. Lots of time and patience. Thats just one of many steps in creating a figure for Poser. I use many programs in the process also. UV Mapper, PHI Builder, Poser, RDS and/or Carrara and Paint Shop Pro. Here is a 1000 foot overview of the steps.. 1) Create the Mesh. 2) Split the mesh up into body parts and name them. The hands are the hardest. You have to split all fingers at the knuckles. ;) 3) Export it as a OBJ file. 4) Check it in Poser as an OBJ for reversed Polymesh Normals. 5) Run UV Mapper on the OBJ file to create the T-Map template. 6) Run PHI Builder to create the heirarchy structure for the figure as well as Inverse Kinimatic chains. 7) Import the PHI File into Poser. 8) Edit the Joint Parameters in Poser via the Joint Paramaters window. 9) Paint the T-Map It takes me months to do a single figure. Thats working about 2-4 hrs per day. The more I do the faster I get. The first one almost killed me. When I was learning all of this stuff it was a lot of trial and error and a LOT of help from my good friends here at Renderosity. I now have a procedure written down...with key things I MUST remember to do at specific steps in the process. Like Exporting my figure at x=0 y=0 and z=0 with a scale size of 1.5% from RDS/Carrara. Its really nice when you get one 100% done and site back and see something that you brought to life, so to speak. A suggestion for anyone starting out with figure creation is this. Start with something on the easy side like a hand, forearm and upper arm only. Dont split the fingers on the hand. You will have only 3 objects to deal with. Hand, lForearm and lUpperarm. Do all the steps so that you have a poseable arm in Poser. Once you can do something like this then move on to something like a neck, chest, abdomen, lThigh and rThigh. Do the same with it... Basicaly build your skills. Dont try to do a complete figure to start with. You more than likely will get frustrated and give up like I ALMOST did. A compelete figure can have as many as 50+ seperate parts. Creating a PHI file and setting all the Joint Parameters for 50+ parts will drive you mad..really. Its very fun but at first can be very intimidating and frustrating. Anyway - I'll stop typing now. If you have anymore question please feel free to post. I really enjoy helping new figure creators get going. I'm currently helping BigSerge...BUT He seems like he has it under control now.. ;) Cant wait to see more of his Dragon figure. Take care, Clint PS - Check out my site...I have a few figures there. I hope to be adding the demon soon. Hawkin-Z GraF-X

Thank you for sharing....lots of people don't like to..lol Debra Ross also gave me some ideas, I love her stuff! Checked your site, like your critters...lol. The demon is too cool too, I won't be able to afford anything like the creature creator program for a while though. =)

Clint, In your "Figure creation (information)" What do you mean by "Split the mesh up into body parts and name them". Thanks Keith

Clint.....Since you do love us all so much. You are g oing to give everyone here at that Carrara List the Demon for free aren't you??........well hell thought I would try at least.

Keithw, I mean to break the mesh into the proper body parts for poser like Forearm, neck, chest lThumb1, lThumb2, lThumb3, etc...Making sure to name each part so that poser can use them. Tuck - LOL. can you say "NO!". ;) hehe...who knows. I've got to get it done first.. ;) Margue - Your welcome. I enjoy teaching or helping other learn something new. Its in my blood. :) Take care, Clint

Clint, I understood the naming part. What I was getting at is, do you split the figure into seperate meshes that are then exported as a group.
ClintH posted Tue, 06 June 2000 at 9:42 AM
In RDS the model is a single object. If you double click the model you enter the Mesh Form Modeler with all of the parts in the MFM. So its a single object with many individual/named PolyMeshes. I think you can do it as a group with individual MFM objects but I havent done it that way. The way I do it is one object with individual MFM polymeshes that are named. That help? Clint
