BRholte: Look, I'm sorry, but I just don't see it. It's a great piece, no doubt about it, but it doesn't say Nothern Lights to me. I see the moon, a starry sky, the horizon, trees and clouds! I could be missing something of course, and if I am, my apologies........... The Bryster

I've never seen the northern lights in person myself, but this looks damn good to me. :-) I really like the way the entire sky turned out; from the yellows and oranges at the horizon, to the stars and moon above. ...not to mention the northern lights.
catlin_mc posted Mon, 14 April 2003 at 2:37 PM
Bryster, perhaps we could meet up for a drink sometime and discuss things like Bryce, Poser, render times, and failing eyesight. 8) Catlin
kstar__2 posted Mon, 14 April 2003 at 2:39 PM
all i can say is WOW, i wish i had your skills though one thing: the northern light is a bit "wavey", and it doesn't look that wavey to me, maybe you could make it more...(you guessed it :P ) wavey ;)
Sparr posted Mon, 14 April 2003 at 2:58 PM
Hold on a second. I think this is WAY too much post-work. I mean, I thought bryce only meant....bryce...only. Lol, you all seem to be gawking too much and not reading. But anyway, whatever, Im not going to try and stop you.
brholte posted Mon, 14 April 2003 at 4:39 PM
LOL! Bryster, no offense taken. I am hoping for AgentSmith or rj001 to tell me if I am breaking the rules so I still have time to try the image again... By the way, Catlin and Bryster needs to settle down a little ;)

I think it's called "Here's looking at you" or something similar. It was started by Orbital so you could do a search on his name to find it. Catlin

Beautiful pic (and yes, the Northern Lights DO sorta look like that), but I gotta agree with Sparr on this one: too much postwork. This should be entered in the Photoshop forum, not the Bryce. My 2 cents.

You are getting too cheeky Bryster.............8)
AgentSmith posted Tue, 15 April 2003 at 7:43 PM
Wow, this would be an extremely difficult effect to do without post-work. Trying to boolean this shape out of multiple volumetric shapes would be something I would not really attempt inside of Bryce, I would opt for post-work myself. And, I know this month's challenge calls for minimal postwork. But...I suppose you could render those clouds on a black background, manipulate that in Photoshop, and then use that on a plane back in Bryce. Sure, that's more "pre-work" than post-work. But, can anyone else accomplish this with Bryce alone? I mean if anyone knows of a tutorial or can make one... re:TheBryster - I see what he may be referring to. The majority of pics we see of the nothern lights are the really broad, dramatic colored ones. This one would be more muted, more subtle compared to the stereotypical bright/dramatic ones we mostly see. Post work or not, beautiful work! AgentSmith
