Whenever i open a file in photoshop and try to save the changes i sometimes get an error box come up saying that i can't save the file and i'll have to unlock the file using the properties command in windows explorer. I also can't delete the file it says it might be being used by another source. Does anyone else get this, and what can i do. photoshop 7 WinME

In the first case it sounds like you were trying to edit a read only file. You can't delete a file that you already have open in Photoshop or any other program.

If you're on the WIN platform, there is a problem feature with the manner windows explorer handles the preview of the "selected" file in your folder view...
So far it has been a "round-and-round" between Adobe and Microsoft as to who needs to fix it. The only offered solution/workaround is to (re)name/"save-as" the file and then toss the other out. It also won't let you toss it out until you've restarted most times... A bit of a pisser, but you're not the only one this has happened to.
What flavour OS are you running. I've had this happen in Win2000 and on a co-workers XP.

Thanxs guys, i've got Winme, but some told me to change the view to details or anything other than thumbs view, i rebooted and it works fine. I think it's a problem with the thumbs view on WinME, the file wasn't read only.

I'm on Windows 98 and have had it happen a few times. I just duplicate the image and save it in a new name and keep working.

Right click on the file and look at properties. See if it's listed as a read only file. If so, uncheck that box. Pictures you get from CDs and other media are read only files generally.
