Yo everyone!
Have you seen the new e-on software time-limited Bryce 5/Vue 4 cross upgrade?!?!
They're selling Vue d'Espirit 4, to Bryce 5 owners, for only $99!!
I think I'll just go for it...
Peace,
A.

I think they are trying to buy Bryce. If they do, that would probably mean the end of bryce! :(

What sales person gallery??
pakled posted Tue, 29 April 2003 at 12:21 PM
do you mean software sales persons? It may be limited to them only. Used to work at a PC store, and we got Microsoft OS's and Packages for under $50 bucks. Sure it isn't the same deal?

They are NOT going to buy bryce. They want to suck up all the users and let bryce die.
runwolf13 posted Tue, 29 April 2003 at 4:29 PM
Why would a Vue buy Bryce? There is nothing in the code of Bryce that could entice Vue to purchase it. The two products are in active competition. Instead, Vue is starting to market itself to Bryce, since Bryce is an abandonded platform. If they can convert a certain number of Brycians to Vuegarians, then they come out ahead, whatever the final disposition is for Bryce. And Vue will be tempting to a large segment of brycian society. A well supported and relatively bug free program is going to be more attractive than an abandonded program. Others will head for another package, either up or down, leaving terrain editors for 3d packages or whatever. Still others will abandon the entire 3d software world. Finally, there are those "Cold, dead finger" brycians, who will suffer setback and abandonment with bitter resentment, but never look outside the world of Bryce for something new. The thing is, Vue, E-On, Mojo or whatever isn't going to LET Bryce die. Corel killed bryce. Period. Bryce is dead. Not that resurection isn't possible, but the reality is the plug has been pulled and the code is in the morgue.

I might be interested in Vue, but first i would need OS X, and then try the demo. Perhaps the people at DAZ could buy Bryce. I'd go for that. :)

The thing is, that at this price, Vue is a bargain, and if you ever thought of buying it then this is the time to do it. The only thing that Vue does better than Bryce IMO is the vegetation and to change to Vue for that only just isn't important enough, 'cos you can always work around such things in Bryce. I'm still optimistic that Bryce will have a champion who will save the program and make it better. There are so many people who have worked in the making of Bryce who still love the program that there has got to be a way to bring it back from the brink. This is me being over optimistic probably but you never know. Catlin

This is like one of those used and tried campaigns where youre asked to turn in your old product for the improved and better one. Which, of course isnt true, because if it was so great an improvement, it would sell itself without the badgering. I've tried both and IMO, Vue's interface couldn't hold a candle to Bryce. It doesn't seem to lend itself to the personalizing of the shape, feel and mood of the terrain the way Bryce allows the user to mold and texture it to their liking. It doesn't feel natural and I find it quite awkward and impersonal to use. The only two things I like about Vue is the render engine, it tends to give the image a more distinct earthy look but with practice, that can be achieved with Bryce and as someone else already pointed out, the vegetation capabilities which IMO, offers a healthy artistic challenge to Brycers. I might consider Vue as an artistic tool to be added to Bryces arsenal.

I think you'll find object/model import into Vue is better also...with more file formats supported. Customer care and support is also miles ahead better than anything Corel can, or are willing to offer IMO. This is open up to debate, because it is down to personal preference...but I feel that the Vue atmosphere editor takes a lot of beating as well; there is not much around, anywhere, that can touch it IMHO. Well, Bryce sky lab can actually! Vegetation? The most realistic images ive seen, has been Bryce renders, with the help of tree lab and 2D images for leaves! Modeling? So far i havent seen a model in Vue, that would make me wanna switch app! Imports? As long as Bryce imports .obj(Poser people), its fine enough for me, but so far every format ive tried have worked just fine, except for .max-files! Rendering options? Have everything i need. And if its not there, it can be faked! Runwolf13, You claim Bryce is dead. Far from it! It will be used for a very long time still. Bryce has every tool necessary to create high end renders. However, if the day would come, ill trade up, towards C4D, MAYA etc, not down... MHO

I'm with you Rochr. I've just got myself Maya and a headache in the overdraft dept., but I still use my Bryce 5 and can't see a time when I would give it up for good. Maya will get used for work but Bryce will always be for pleasure. Catlin

Rochr, Im not going to try to sway you on your comments, as software comparisons are subjective. We could argue till the cows come home on what is best. I will respect your comments, because they are valid for you and because I also believe Bryce is a decent program...but showing a bit of respect for other peoples opinions and being a bit more polite would not go a miss! Tell me why the Sky Lab is better, instead of berating anybody who does not hold the same opinion as you. What options do you like in it, what makes it better in your opinion to any other software atmosphere editor? Surely not having Poser PZ3 import is a failure of Bryce? How do you get around animating a Poser figure in Bryce? There are faults in all programs, my biggest hang up with Vue, is that I would love even more render options. I feel that it restricts results under certain conditions. Anyway I've already upgraded, so the fate of Bryce does not bother me in the slightest! ;o) Cheers

I can give you 3 answers for the poser animation. 2 are 3rd party programs called Susanna and Natural Pose, the 3rd is manually using my tutorial at http://www.dawnstarproductions.50megs.com None of those are ideal but they work. So far there has been nothing for Bryce that I haven't found some kind of work around for it. The only real thing I see lacking in Bryce is it's animation. And really you can't give the argument that Bryce doesn't contain all these things within it's program, many of the high-end programs that cost thousands can't do everything out of the box. They require plug-ins that can cost a lot more money on top of what you've already paid. I haven't used Vue but really have no need for it Bryce does everything I want so far and for a very low price. If I would need it to do more than more than likely I would upgrade to Maya which is very close in how Bryce works. Bryce is more than a landscape program and many people underestimate it's power.

Cheers, Youre right! We could probably argue about this to infinity. We both have our own opinions and mine were not meant to show any disrespect. If youve taken it that way, you have my apologies. I didnt claim that the Sky Lab were superior, but it sure can touch Vues atmosphere editor. Im basing this on end result, rather than any special feature. Its not only the skies, but also the overall atmosphere (haze/fog etc) that matters to me. The scenes i can do in Bryce, would be impossible for me to do in Vue! (Ive tried) But as ive stated, this is MY opinion. Everyone are entitled to feel otherwise. :)
