Please tell me if the "new" Poser characters/models sold on Rendersotiy and elsewhere are completely new meshes or are they morphed Daz characters?
Is it legal to morph a Daz character and then resell it as a new character based on the original Daz character? or is the new morph a completely new character?
Also, if a custom texture is created for a prop (i.e, hair) that is currently sold by another vendor -can the new texture, based on the orignial prop and created by another artist, be sold ?
And what about textures? If a completly new texture (including face map) is created for a DAZ character can that texture be sold? and if so, is the product referenced as a new Poser character?
Or can a "new model" be sold legally only if the seller actually creates the mesh?
Thanks to all the respond!

since you mention Daz, all the answers can be found on the daz3d faq about what is legal to distribute, sell, and what is not, and how to do that. If you create a texture completely from your own making using the blank texture guides (provided in each product) then you can legally do what ever you wish with that texture that you created, sell it or give it away. you CAN NOT use an existing texture as a base to create a dirivitive and sell that or even give it away. you create it, it's yours, you use someone elses or Daz, you can use it for personal use but not give it away, or sell it. morphs are defined in the Daz FAQ as to what you have to do to make them distributable, ether for sale or free, you have to read their info. just some info I've been getting data on myself. hope that helps a bit.hauksdottir posted Sun, 04 May 2003 at 3:22 AM
Some of the characters for sale are based upon DAZ characters or the standard P4 and P5 characters. They will be encoded so that you must have the original character installed on your computer to use the new one. The "notes" section is specifically to alert potential buyers about ALL prior required purchases... but most vendors are very upfront, for example: "you must have Vicky 2" in the product description. Some of the characters sold are original meshes, not related at all to the standard ones. Natalia and Natrixa by DaCort, all those glamorous Supermodels by Jim Burton, Koshini by Littlefox, Dina by DSI, Ossian (but I can't remember the artist... sorry) are all brand new meshes. If creating a texture or adaptation for a model made by someone else, you ought to contact that person first before public release. Simple courtesy. Carolly
