Subject: UV Mapping: seperate texture maps for different material zones?

I have this tank thing I'm working on - and in order for me to texture it like I would like, I need to have different textures for different material zones. It's kinda hard to understand...I'll post a diagram. I have the pipe, tank, and base in the diagram. These are all part of the same object, but have different material zones. I would like to put the textures for each of these on a seperate .jpg - I know this is possible, and I have seen it done - I just can't think clearly right now. How would I do this?

you can do it in uv mapper . Pict the material you want then hide the rest using this key " [ " then save your template and make sure to check the box " Exclude hidden facets " your also going to have to export your model as well with the new UV mapping in it .

1. Press ctrl-m (select by material) 2. Press ' (apostrophe) to hide everything except your selection. 3. Press ctrl-t to save the template and check 'exclude hidden facets' 4. Incidentally, with a model like that, you should really use different mapping for the various parts. I'd go mainly with box mapping, but the pipe will need cylindrical. It doesn't look too easy. A bent pipe is a nightmare. Try asking steve on that one. mac

Thanks for all the help - I think I'll probally be able to take it from here. And about that bent pipe - it probally will be a challenge, but I'm not all that worried about it. I'll get by it somehow - and if worse comes to worse, I'll just use a procedural texture in poser for that.

The part I do not see suggested - when you isolate a material - hiding everything else - you can give the whole map area to that material. Efficient in texture size needed, a pain to apply.
