Would it be possible to have a "manage artwork" option in the member settings? What I mean is, just the titles of the artwork with "delete" or "edit" options beside them? Maybe even using the same list from where you can choose the 3 featured home page images? I only ask because if I want to delete, say, 25 images (like I do, to downsize my gallery) then I have to scroll through all the thumbs to find the one I want, then wait for the page to reload after each delete. It would literally take an hour on my connection. If I could just delete based on the title then this would help gallery maintenance much easier - and I think more people would do it more often. I hope this doesn't provoke a 400 post thread ;) - it's just something that occurred to me that might be very easy to do and would help out people with dismal connection speeds. :)

Just to get you started on a 400 post thread, I have to say that's really a good idea. I've wanted to weed my gallery too but the very idea of having to delete one by one has kept me from doing it.

Run for your Mod lives, it's a tuttle suggestion!!! Seriously, will make sure this question is seen. BUT...don't do it MAN! Don't delete perfection! How am I supposed to see my favorite tuttle work when it has been deleted? (seriously) AgentSmith

lol @ AS! Thanks for the vote of confidence! :))) Well, I'm just going to do a bit of housekeeping, and get rid of some of the old crusty ones! But you do have a point (not just relating to me!). There's a favourite image thing now, isn't there? So what happens if someone deletes an image that someone else has on favourites? I suppose it just come up "image not found" when the person looks for it, but it seems kinda mean, doesn't it? LOL! But don't worry - the ones I have in mind have never been chosen as favourites, I guarantee!

Actually that has happened to me and I end up with a blank line on my artist's page. I wish an ebot when notify me when the artist has deleted a graphic I had so listed. I just hope they don't remove the graphic because I liked it...that could start giving me a complex. And I already have enough of those.

Good catch about the deletion of gallery items affecting favorite lists. We'll have to fix that. Thanks. Tommy

I'm just nostalgic by nature, hate to see things go away. You are a unique (Bryce) artist, you should keep a record of your work somewhere...seriously. You got a homepage? Get one. (like I can talk, I never update my own, lol) AS

Thanks! I think it may be funny in later years to look back on my first attempts! But that's assuming I improve! lol! I did have a home page but like you I couldn't be bothered to update it. :| I rewrote it so it was easier to update and I still couldn't be bothered, so I scrapped it! But you have got me thinking - not just regarding my own stuff, but everyone's. How many people just chuck their images away when they get a new PC or delete them all for good the next time they do a tidy-up? Just imagine if instead, you stored them on CD and kept them for 40 or 50 years, show them to your grandkids! Maybe by then there'll be software where you can create holographic feature films just by thinking about them! My grandmother's always complaining that she should've kept things from when she was young but never thought! Perhaps we should think about it and not make the same mistake!?!

I don't know anybody who just deletes their stuff and that's that. After they start putting in the hours working on a scene, they get a little protestive of their wrk, lol. I store everything on CD, and eventually DVD. Gonna keep it Forever! AS

I cleaned up a bit a few months ago. Just don't let it get that large and the one by one deletion isn't a problem, really.

Good catch about the deletion of gallery items affecting favorite lists. We'll have to fix that. To help in this thread making it to the #400 mark...What happens if say...someone gets mad, grabs all their toys and goes home...and doesn't WANT anyone to keep their images on this site?...is that fair? ~Jani

I suppose that's unavoidable. If I were to leave (I don't see it myself!) then I'd just leave my gallery here, because it wouldn't be doing any harm. If I may be so bold as to suggest... maybe the people who are always threatening to throw their toys out of the cot and delete their galleries are those whose work would be missed least? 387 to go... ;)
Jumpstartme2 posted Sun, 11 May 2003 at 6:16 AM
Unavoidable?....hmmmm..ok, but what if we were talking marketplace items? *I know of several people that have picked up and left here, ones whose art IS missed by several members that were enraged that their items/images were still here after asking for their removal, and after their departure... Its not right that 'Rosity should tell people that because their images 'might' be on someones fave lists, that they have no option but to leave them here if they so choose to leave themselves. I think if the artist goes, then so should his/her art...or at least ask if said art can stay, not take it hostage. I feel deja-vu... tosses the ball back to the other side 386..:P

"Its not right that 'Rosity should tell people that because their images 'might' be on someones fave lists" I don't think they do! Anyone can delete any item they want, AFAIK - as long as it's theirs ;) As for Marketplace items, that would be different. Obviously if the merchant were not here then their items should not be for sale, but that's commercial and practical rather than "artistic". "that were enraged that their items/images were still here after asking for their removal" I remember at least two cases where this happened regarding galleries, where people posted a "I'm leaving - delete my gallery NOW" message. It wasn't that Rendo said the images couldn't be deleted, they said that it was not the mods' / admins' job to do this, it was the person's responsibility - which seems fair to me. I suppose this could be a one-sided discussion, because the people who really have left aren't here to comment :)

I second (or third or fourth) Tuttle's idea! (See, we can agree on something...)
Also what I would love to see on that same note is the ability to order your work rather than last one first. This way you can put images that you'd like to showcase on the first page of your gallery...I think that one they said was added to the list sometime back, but was wondering if it had moved on up any...

I almost deleted this one pic of mine, it's 5 months old, and its kinda simple, it's one of my least favorites in my gallery... ...then suddenly, Renderosity wants the pic to put in their magazine. So now, you couldn't pay me to delete my stuff, lol. But, still a "manage my gallery" type of ability is a good idea, a good way of affecting your gallery in a global way, instead of individually. AS
