It depends. If you're using a graphics tablet, it's indeed superior, as most of the improvements seem to be aimed primarily at supporting tablets. If you're not using a tablet, the only improvement seems to be better brush functions.

It also matters "WHAT" you use photoshop for. If it's mainly photo retouch 6 is perfectly fine. If you are doing postwork on CG or photo-manipulation, then you'll appreciate the enhancements to the brush engine. There is also enhancements to the "web" features.

i bought it for the heal function alone
yomah posted Sat, 10 May 2003 at 10:50 PM
I bought it because of school and price difference for students but I would have paid full price for the revised brush engine that retrocity mentioned. The ability to make custom brushes is fantastic. I think I will enjoy working in Photoshop for many years to come.

wow... yomah talks? lol theres a 1st... jk... uh yea... i agree with retro on this one... 6 is fine for touchups... 7 takes origonal PS art to a whoel new level though. only bad thing about upgrades are.. if you diside to get certified with adobe. i was schedualed for my PS6 test i had to take through adobe to get certified a few years back... and before my test date came up.. they released7.... i almost died... now im abotu to take the test again... kinda scared if 8 comes out soon. its a lot of money for a piece of paper.. that doesnt travel with you to the next version. =( 1 thing though... if anoy1 has 4 through 6 do not waiste your $ on elements... now theres a crock... its the same thing as 6.1 butout all the bells and whistels... if you dont have any PS and dont wanna spend 800 on the latest version.. elements rocks. all depends where you are comign from.

Did you realize that you have to recertify within 90 days of taking the ACE test? The test is $150US but they give you a 25% discount on recertifying. They need to give a certification that sticks ... at least a permanent version certification.
animemeken posted Mon, 12 May 2003 at 7:42 PM
what's the point of getting certified
GODspeed posted Mon, 12 May 2003 at 8:36 PM
certified is basically a Gold stamp put on yur forhead stating you know more than 85% of all components of PS7... why you ask? 1 reason.... if you applying for a production job at a studio.. and you compeating along with 3 other artists.. with the same resume... and portfolio... if your the only one with the certification.. you will get the job. this if every1 else is equal in resume and portfolio.... basically states by adobe... :this man named here on this certificate is the shit at Photoshop7, and might as well be part of our staff he is so well knoweldged in it. also.. 2nd reason.. alot of college professors required gettin certified... to Teach any class that deasl with adobe photoshop 3rd... you get put on the adobe website with your contact information... and you can actually train other people fully at photoshop... and get paid for it... like a fanchise... u pay 300 to get you diploma... and you go out tutoring students... or other FX artists.. and charge them $$$ that u dont owe Adobe.... there are many perks in it... it is a Definite requirement to get certified in the software of your medium.. if u desire high up jobs.... hope that answers it.

SO often I making textures tilable. So, v7.0 is worth it for the Healing Brush alone. Like magic for my fixing my family's old photo's also. I wouldn't want to live without it ever again. AS

unfortunatly... leaks are like little old women sittin around at bingo... tryin to see what story would come up soundign beefier... not knckin your source.. but everytime i get my hopes up on a rumor.. well.. i get dissapointed... and if 8 wer ein the making... it wouldnt be till late 2004-2005 till it was out... if its anything liek the beta of 7.0 there will be months of testing. but why would they publicly say WE are making a 7.01 if they are working on a 8.0... they made a 6.01 1 year after 6 was released, correctign some errors they nvr caught. that was in.. like..2000? sumthing like that. all i have to say is theyd better not start spitting version out Like FLIPPING AOL does... there are only a few of us left that actually pay for software nowadays... theyd better not start puttin out 200-400$ upgrades every 18 months... grrr lol
GODspeed posted Fri, 16 May 2003 at 4:58 PM
ok... this is just making my feathers ruffled.. imjust going to call them and find out. lol
GODspeed posted Fri, 16 May 2003 at 5:13 PM
ok.. i just called them... they said the sales staff knows abotu upcoming releases within 6 months of them happening.. because they now offer a new PReorder option... and they said.. it is eather not in the works yet.. or has just started.. because they have heard nothign bout it ... but they are going to be releaseing a 7.01 version to registered customers in the end of july. so.. i dunno.. :shaked head:

I know that Photoshop will (most likely) have to beef up its 16-bit attributes to keep it modern, SO much work is going in that direction, it's going to have to fully implement it at some point.
