Hello dudes. Im considering to buy new cpu. At school, we have AMDS, 2000+. when running photoshop, some simple tasks make photoshop freeze for several tens of seconds. SPECIALLY opening layers effects, also starting offset filter takes longer than expected. So i ask: AMD users, experience you this too? And P4 users do you experience this? Purpose is that i have to chose between P4 and AMD. I chosen amd, but if this issue relates to AMD only and isnt experienced on P4 i will spend some more bucks to get Intel instead. Thanx.

No problems like this with my AMD. Sounds more like a memory issue anyway.

My AMD processor likes photoshop fine. Wiser heads than I have suggested that the intel chips are actually the better buy at the moment though because of the AMD's heat issues, but don't quote me on that...it is always a good idea to read up on the latest independent reviews and comparisons on sites such as tomshardware etc...before spending your money! :-)> :-)>

intel P4 2ghz, runs like a dream. intel's hyper threading processors are a great buy for photoshop at the moment, but both are great. your computers at school just suck balls is all. They, like the ones at my old CEGEP and now my university, just likely aren't kept up very well by the technicians. It's hard to do with so many students using the computers. Both the Mac dual G4s, and the Intel PCs suck balls at Concordia U... as long as you take care of your home computer, it will eat up anything your school can offer, even if you were to get an AMD 1600+.

I'm AMD Athlon XP 1800+, and Photoshop loves me since I left my old, slow PC behind. No real lags as of now, that I can ever recall. Yet, I also use 512mb sdram and 3 hard drives. OS on one, Photoshop installed on another, and the scratch disk using yet another. I believe that helps. AgentSmith

I just built an AMD XP 2800+. My older machine, now belonging to my sister, was an AMD XP 1800+ ran just fine without any glitches. Maybe this will help. This is the memory setting I use in Photoshop. I usually allocate a little more "juice" to Photoshop.
