Do any of you get into photohaiku at all?

...sounds fun. And limericks.

Never done any myself, but looks creative. Do you have a collection of these you have done?

Well, I guess I need to explain haiku first. Haiku is a form of short poetry, usually 17 syllables or less in 3 lines. Often it is broken down as 5, 7, 5 syllables. Usually, it has 2 lines of description followed by a third line of inspirational awareness called the turn or the "haiku moment" also called the "aha moment." Check out the url on this message and take a look at this one for some examples. http://home.alc.co.jp/db/owa/ph_top With photohaiku you combine both the poetry and the photo or other visual art into a combined pair that compliment each other. They are usually related but don't really have to be. Here is another example. Poke around the interenet with a search on phothaiku and you will soon see what I mean. I like the phrase that a picture is worth a thousand words. With photohaiku, you get to give the viewer a hint at what those 1,000 words would be. Now, go forth and learn. doc

I never even heard of haiku before reading this, but I like it. So here's my first photo haiku attempt (Ive probably got it all wrong). The picture was taken at Blijdorp Zoo, which is about 15 minutes from where I live. It took me about 20 minutes and 22 shots to get 2 reasonable pictures (yes, the other 20 are total crap).

Congratulations and welcome to the brother/sisterhood. You've broken a few haiku rules but the rules are always open to question and depending on who you ask, they change quite a bit. I think you very much have the spirit of what it is all about. Even if it isn't "strictly" classified as haiku, it is still short form poetry and a perfect marriage of photography and poetry, two beautiful forms of artistic expression. I'm so tickled that someone took the bait. :-) You can do a web search on haiku and find tons of sites to learn about it and the seemingly endless number of forms of this style of poetry. If you want some suggestions, I'd be happy to offer them and I look forward to seeing some of your work in future posts. Let me know if I can help.
