Good questions Dizzie :) Yes, I too need them to be seamless, otherwise there is no reason to spend money on them actually. Since they are psds there shouldn't be any background to lift them off of Dizzie, they should be on a transparent layer.

PSP has had a seamless option since Version 6 actually, I believe. Doesn't work too well though, so I hope they have improved that in 8. I thought Photoshop had that capability too, you mean there is something that PSP has that Photoshop doesn't?? Shocking :) Dizzie, if they are cut cleanly, then cutting and pasting them to appear seamless shouldn't be a problem. Otherwise, it will be a PITA to make them look right, but it can be done. Just depends on whether you think they are pretty enough to spend the money, knowing you may (not for sure) but may have some problems using them down the road for a project. Pendy

Actually dizzy,I own psp 7.04ae and there is no seamless option that I am aware of. Also, I see you tiled the pieces above in both directions,wouldnt the proper proceedure be to tile them only left and right?....after all PSP 8.0 has that option...Just MY 2 pennies.

in paint shop 8 if you goto Effects/imageEffects/seamless tiling and hit edge veritical this is what you get so i gess thats not that hard just about a click and ty will keep it in mind for the nex set

I agree with Pendy, I never buy non-seamless textures or laces, the fact is you should also consider not everybody own PSP8 or have time and will to do them seamless, when your working on something (a texture in this case) I'd like my tools to be ready for use.
And just to be clear, I'm stating this because I was already in love with this package :)

I think they're great. And they look like they repeat enough that they could be cut to seamless with one click :o). Since I paste a lot of my stuff in Photoshop piece by piece anyway, it's really no biggie to me whether trims are seamless or not. Now texture fills on the other hand.... ;o) Laurie

Yeah I was already in love with it too :) I'm a PSP7 user myself. Oh Laurie, don't even get me started on texture fills LOL!! The clone tool gets a huge workout from me on those a lot of the time :)

Texture fills I like to make seamless from the get-go. I can't stand a texture fill that's supposed to tile that doesn't. So I check 'em all...LOL ;o). Photoseam by Mediachance is a great program (actually the best I've found for just creating seamless from non-seamless). It's cheap too. I like that - cause I'm cheap...hehehe. However, I do have a lot of trims that I prepped myself and as long as there's a transparent background, making them seamless on the texture map is easy enough, especially when you are placing them in little bitty pieces when going around curves and what not. At that point, whether they are seamless or not makes no difference. You are gonna have to use the clone tool in those instances :o). At least that's been my experience. But it's a whole lot less difficult than a seamless texture fill :o) Laurie

This is because I'm clueless, but is there a need for both seamless and non-seamless version in one package? It seems as if the seamless could be used for non-seamless purposes but not visa versa. Or am I wrong? Could be. I am a dunce at this stuff. The pearls and lace are a gorgeous package. And this discussion has made my acquisition of PSP 8 more likely.

the black bg is 2000by2000 and yes its a separate layer it was transparent but i thought the lace could be seen better if the bg was black

Someone was kind enough to get me this package as a gift. I much prefer the lace in the raw form instead of seamless because I do work in layers upon layers. Its easier for me to make individual adjustments to it that way. Honestly, I dont have a need for them to be seamless. If I did need them to be that way I would run them through 20/20 or some other program to make them that way. In doing that everyone would be using the same materials ect.ect. You can only flood fill lace so many ways w

Soooo what I am thinking is this sure could save me a lot of time, aggrivation and sometimes frustration when I want a bit of lace on something. But I did not see what I wanted to know in the readme. Perhaps I missed it? But if I use these as borders on something that I am making can I still distribute my textures freely with no copywrite issues with your lace on them?

Just wanted to say what a lovely kit and clarify a few things. First of all, all you PSP'ers, don't get too excited about PSP doing something PS can't - sorry to have to tell you this but you can create seamless tiles very easily in PS. It is under Filters | Other !! ;) hehehe PS7 also has a great pattern generator which is just fabulous. Also, as for this Lace kit being seamless, I really don't think it is necessary. They are lace embellishments and not textures as such and a lot easier to manipulate as they are imho, of course. I definitely would expect fabric scans, textures, patterns etc. to be seamless!

what is seamless exactly? do you mean when you buy fabric in a store and then sew it on your sewing machine at home. did you know that even doing that, where the seams meet the front and backs of the item dont match up exactly...but wierd is they do in the 3d world. and how do you make a true seamless tile? by kalidescope fashion or making the edges blurred or offsetting it and then trying to match them up that way. i have only found one real way of doing it and that is to make them as you would appliying walpaper to a wall. and then still you dont get one pattern to say sell in a store. this is why mine arent seamless. i figure if i sell them in a larger size then getting them seamless on the item your texturing would probably be easier.

Hi! :) It really does depend on what you are using the fabric scans for in terms of digital art application. Seamless means that the pattern repeats without any obvious breaks or "seams". Although clothes in the real world do have seams and patterns don't always match up, for 3d texturing you have to create very believable seams for the clothing item to be acceptable or the item should be seamless. Hope that makes sense. Sometimes you need to fill in an area of clothing or whatever with a pattern and it is easier if that pattern is seamless as all you need to do is fill as opposed to spending time to make that pattern seamless. I have to be honest, I make a lot of my own patterns and do various scans of materials/fabrics and make them all seamless - first thing I do. If I am buying fabrics, I won't buy if they are not seamless unless they are exceptional and something I particular want! Hope that answers your question a bit! Same here Diandra. I make almost all my own textures and I ALWAYS make them seamless tiles first thing. If they are even fabric scans, I still make them seamless so that I can fill a specified area with no seams. The only area of a texture map (assuming it's a clothing item) that I don't care to match patterns is if it's an area where a real piece of clothing would normally have a seam, such as where the sleeve meets the body of the clothing, seams down the outside of pants between the front and back - areas that would normally be pieced together on a sewing machine. Nature abhors a straight line...saying that, Isnt the goal in 3d to create models and images that are as close to real life as can be? If you look at something that is perfectly seamless in all areas wouldnt it scream "fake" no matter how good the textures themselves were? Its like a perfect face, its beautiful but it has no character so to speak, but a blemish will make the faces beauty stand out all that much more. Just rambling here, damn coffee.....:P

well i want to know is what method is used to make them seamless i guess...i think that just confused me. i mean would you call something that looks like the image a seamless tile? where one is like a kaliedescope(spelling) and the other is made with psp7 seamless tile. (the one in the center is the original tile)i mean when i used to texture, all i did was take that 300 res fabric scan i made and stick the intire thing on the outfit. sure that was probably the wrong way but for me i look at them if i were sewing them. i guess to each their own though. i just dont sell seamless...i dont see the use in messing up a perfectly good peice of fabric design and figure its best to let someone else do that part.

K folks...here's a quickie seamless primer ;o). This first image is a fabric swatch that has not been made seamless. I chose a real simple repeating pattern to illustrate. The original swatch is shown against the tiled file where you can visibly see the seems. Nasty stuff ;o). Laurie

This is the last image cropped at the points in the image above and filled into a larger area as seamless tiles. Now there are no seams! Easy, yes? :o) Laurie

Now, not all patterns can be made seamless this easy. Some repeats on fabric span many inches across the face of the fabric before the design repeats. In those instances you need help of special software like Photoseam. What Photoseam does is allow you to clone an area in real time against the original. It will change the pattern somewhat, but it will still look like a nice design. A lot of repeating patterns are based on Escher principles and tho they may repeat perfectly horizontally, they shift slightly on the vertical or vice versa, making them virtually impossible to line up without help. Great illustration, Laurie. It can take a lot of hard work to make a fabric scan, or any pattern, seamless. I only use Photoshop and make great use of the clone tool after using the offset filter. It is very rare that I will buy textures if they haven't been completely prepared for texturing or graphics use. Sorry but I think anyone can scan fabrics and embellishments not matter how great they are and I won't pay for that. But someone who has taken the time to prepare the graphics and understands the environment in which they may be used can afford to charge a bit more and make sales. Imho, of course ;) I think it is OK to see natural seams on clothing textures but it is very rare that it is done with any kind of expertise. It is just a question of the pattern not lining up but making it look stitched and like a piece of clothing instead of a 3d model, is the key!! Very interesting thread - pun intended!! ;) Di

yes i agree with you diandra just wanted to know what was meant by seamless tiling. cause i know i have tried this on my animal prints and floral prints and everytime have come into making them a kaliedescope which annoys the mess out of me. So since i also sell fabric swatches, i make them non seamless but i try to give people huge sizes that rosity well allow on digital. although as one of my customers has come to me in the past asking for the full size of one of my packages and i have inturn uploaded and gave that to them. dont know if it was the wisest idea but if you buy it and want it then lest its there so you can make it seamless on your own. maybe one day i well just take the full sizes, put them on cd and sell them that way. also Laurie thanks, i knew about that one, but that is right, doesnt always work on everything. wish it would though would make my life alot easier. i have brocade fabric, i well try to seamless those although they are very design heavy so it may not work. can you please tell me where i can find this program you are talking about?

Totally agree with Photo Seam being a great program. I have been using it for years and is probably one of the best investments I ever made. Price is truly amazing for all that it does. Will even let you pull in your plug in's from PS and other programs if you wish to work on the texture a bit more right there in the program. What is even better, well for those that lose things, is they keep excellent records and could find my registration for me when I needed to install the program on to a new computer. :-)

Hi! :) Very pretty items! How about a good seam editor for the Mac? Usually if I don't want to bother with seams I just get the texture in as large a piece as I can and go from there. I look for fabric patterns to be at least 1500 by 1500px, though I prefer larger, and make exceptions for very pretty things.
