Hey gang! I was reading through the back messages and came upon "How soon for Bryce6". I'm a beginner in the world of 3D modeling and Bryce5 is the only program I've used, well, I have CorelDream3D, but it's not worth taking the time to learn. I barely made it through the first tutorial when Bryce came in the mail. Anyway, I'm having a lot of fun with Bryce, and to find out that Corel has shelved it, is pretty disappointing. Just think of the things we could have if Bryce was developed further. Metaballs could evolve into metaprimitives. Or they could be switched back and forth from attractive to repellant, ie: metaballs and metashapes whose surfaces shy away from each other as they get nearer. Or how about Boolean capable metashapes? I wonder if Corel has anyone monitoring this forum to see what we're talking about. Surely, if they did, they could see that we want more, and would see the benefit to giving us nontechies a program that would run circles around the competition. I just wanted to put in my $179 worth. Peace, kids.

Hmm...yeah, been on the Corel Nightm..uh Dream, yeah, that's the ticket..;) I don't know that Corel takes much an interest at all in here, which is a shame. (Poser, on the other hand, has employees, vendors, etc., in their forum all the time). Attempts to contact Corel about much of anything have been frustrating, to say the least. I don't know if there's any work at all on Bryce 6, because last I heard, Corel was just trying to stay in business, period. Don't wish them ill or anything, just think they're missing out on a market segment..

I wish I'd said that.. The Staircase Wit

One thing I'd like to see introduced in Bryce 6 is the ability to import 3dm (Rhino) models. Also the ability to export things modeled in Bryce in .obj or some other format for import into other apps. In addition to the boolean-capable metaballs

Bryce 6 is a loooooong way away, if ever, Corel has no plans for developing Bryce, takes no interest in the people who use it and provides no support for problems with it... a fact of life we all live with here....

kev, if you're a beginner, it's best you take the long hard way of another app such as cinema4d or lightwave into consideration rather than bryce. it'll save you the frustration later when you find out you've specialized -even as a hobby- in a piece of software without a future. drac

(bikermouse laughing)he he he he * Learn all you can. Bryce has many tricks that if you master you can use in other apps. do not be discouraged - Bryce 6 will happen - "... Be not afraid! tell my brethern that they go into Galilee and there they shall see me..."

Corel priced Bryce at $79. Yeah, seventy nine dollars.

BTW, Negative meta's already exist. Just shift-click the metaball-icon.

Its a shame about Bryce. I havn't used it for years, but Bryce is one the Icons of the 3D industry. As soon as I heard that Corel had purchased Bryce from MC, I knew deep inside that it's future was doomed. Seems to me Corel can never do justice to any of their software or customers. I say good ridence to Corel; when you are a customer of theirs, who needs enemies! As for Bryce, lets all hope it lives on under the ownership of new people who really care about it...and it's users. Cheers

And on the road to Bryce 6 we will spend 40 years wandering in the wilderness, eh bikermouse ...............LOL 8)

Incarnadine posted Mon, 26 May 2003 at 1:46 PM

Ah, but what a wilderness we shall make!

Pass no temptation lightly by, for one never knows when it may pass again!

Catlin, Hey I can't think of any group of people I'd rather spend 40 years in the wilderness with, but The quotes were from Matthew not Exodus. At least Corel is providing an outlet for sales of Bryce 5 right now. - TJ

Bikermouse, Time, distance, chapters..........who cares? As Incarnadine said "what a wilderness we shall make". If we Brycers are no good at anything else making a spectacular wilderness should be no problem. 8D Catlin

Less than $100 eh? If it's put on the shelves of the software stores where one can see it and shown for what it is... It should sell. (Maybe a new generation Brycers spawned by this?) If I spot it I might upgrade from version 4. LOL. If not, who knows... At least the pricing is more realistic now. Who knows, maybe somethings cookin' and we don't know it yet. Usually the old version software becomes quite a bit cheaper before the new one is brought out. But that's just me being optimistic.

Erlik...$79? How, where, when? Corel charged me $169 + s$h online only back in January of this year. I couldn't find it on the shelves where I live and CompUSA wanted $10 more to order it for me. sigh....typical. Rayraz...thanks for the tip on negative metas. I have much to learn. Thanks for all the other replies, too.
